Organizations Filed Purposes: The purpose of the Garden State Coalition of Schools (GSCS) is to promote educational practices, reasonable state regulations and state laws which further high quality education for all children. GSCS primary focus is on the interrelated issues of academic achievement education practices and school finance. GSCS supports efforts towards more equitable education opportunities for all school children. Wise public policy includes a permanent commitment to both quality and equity. GSCS believes that equity should be achieved by improving education and not by diminishing quality and eliminative school programs that have led to high student achievement.

To promote education practices reasonable state regulations and state laws which further high quality education for all children.

GSCS makes a permanent commitment to improving education without diminishing quality. GSCS provides a broad perspective reflecting the concerns of educators, school board members, communities and parents. GSCS emphasizes and advocates on the inter-related issues of academic achievement, educational practices and rational school finance. Programmatic accomplishments include monthly meetings, with distinguished speakers, September -April, and an Annual Meeting with a keynote address by the Commissioner of Education and a panel discussion featuring legislators and the president of the State BOE. The Executive Director represented the organization at all meetings of the Assembly and Senate Education Committees, the Joint Committee on the Public Schools and various other legislative committees. The Executive Director gave testimony on behalf of the organization at many of those meetings. The organization collaborated with the DOE on "feedback sessions" on assessments and charter schools. As part of lobbying activities, the Executive Director met with key legislators and/or their staffs on a variety of issues. The Executive Director also worked on various collaborative efforts with other education professional organizations. Accomplishments include increasing the membership by eight districts in the 2018-2019 year, putting out a bi-weekly newsletter ("News and Notes") to keep members informed of legislative, regulatory and program-related developments; writing the "Buzz", a news round-up (posted by about 8 am every weekday),that is sent to the Executive Committee, posted on the GSCS website and tweeted out to the organization's Twitter followers.
