Organizations Filed Purposes: TO CREATE OPPORTUNITIES FOR SUCCESS BY ENRICHING THE LIVES OF UNDER-RESOURCED YOUTH THROUGH INNOVATIVE TENNIS,EDUCATION, AND MENTORING PROGRAMS, DESIGNED TO PREPARE STUDENT ATHLETES FOR THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF SUCCESSFUL COLLEGE ADMISSIONS AND CAREER PLACEMENT.

NJTL OF TRENTON'S ASHE ELITE PROGRAMS PROVIDE OUR STUDENT-ATHLETES WITH TENNIS, ACADEMIC AND CAREER LESSONS THROUGH MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL. PARTICIPANTS RECEIVE TENNIS TRAINING AND EQUIPMENT YEAR-ROUND AND THOSE WHO MEET OUR COMBINED ATHLETIC, ACADEMIC AND COMMUNITY SERVICE STANDARDS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIPS PAID DIRECTLY TO THEIR INDIVIDUAL INSTITUTION OF HIGHER LEARNING. OVER $25,000 OF SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AWARDED IN 2020, AND THREE OF OUR RECIPIENTS WERE DISTINGUISHED FROM A POOL OF NATIONAL ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS AND RECEIVED ADDITIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS FROM THE NATIONAL FOUNDATION OF THE USTA. OUR AWARD WINNERS WERE CHOSEN FOR THEIR HARD WORK BOTH ON AND OFF THE COURTS AND IN AND OUT OF THE CLASSROOM. WE WORK TOGETHER WITH THE USTA AND OUR LOCAL ENRICHMENT PARTNERS: THE LAWRENCEVILLE SCHOOL, RIDER UNIVERSITY, PRINCETON UNIVERSITY AND BLOOMBERG LP. EACH PROGRAM IS AGE APPROPRIATE AND DESIGNED TO OFFER WORKSHOPS WITH MENTORING EXPERIENCE THAT ULTIMATELY WILL PREPARE OUR STUDENT-ATHLETES FOR COLLEGE PREPARATION/ADMISSION AND CAREER PLACEMENT. IN 2020, OUR 12TH GRADE SENIORS HAD A 100% GRADUATION RATE, AS COMPARED TO A 68% RATE FOR NON-PARTICIPATING STUDENTS AT THE LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL. OUR PROGRAM'S ULTIMATE SUCCESS IS CONTINUALLY DEMONSTRATED BY THE MANY RETURNING ALUMNI OF OUR PROGRAMS WHO HAVE VOLUNTEERED AND WORKED IN OUR PROGRAMS.

NJTL OF TRENTON'S ACADEMIC CREATIVE ENGAGEMENT (ACE) AND RECENTLY DEVELOPED MINECRAFT EDUCATION (ME) PROGRAMS PROVIDE AFTER SCHOOL SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL PROJECT-BASED LEARNING TO STUDENTS 8-18 YEARS OF AGE IN THE UNDER-RESOURCED GREATER TRENTON COMMUNITY. ACE, IN ITS 10TH YEAR, WAS CREATED AND DEVELOPED BY OUR ORGANIZATION AND IS TODAY USED ANNUALLY BY OVER 50 OTHER NJTL CHAPTERS ACROSS THE US. THE CURRICULUM USED IS TIED TO NATIONAL EDUCATIONAL STANDARDS AND COMMON CORE STATE STANDARDS. THE PROGRAM IS DIVIDED INTO THREE STRATEGICALLY IMPACTFUL APPROPRIATE AGE GROUPINGS: PRE-K TO 2ND GRADE, 3RD TO 5TH GRADE AND 6TH TO 8TH GRADE. ALTHOUGH 2020 SAW AN INTERRUPTION IN OUR ACE PROGRAMS AS COVID-19 CLOSED ALL IN SCHOOL OFFERINGS IN MID-MARCH, WE WERE STILL ABLE TO OFFER OVER 500 HOURS OF ACADEMICALLY CHALLENGING, ENGAGING, AND ULTIMATELY POSITIVELY IMPACTFUL PROGRAMMING. ACE'S ORIGINAL FOUNDERS ALONG WITH OUR STAFF SUBSEQUENTLY CREATED OUR NEWEST EDUCATIONAL OFFERING COMBINING ZOOM TECHNOLOGY WITH MINECRAFT EDUCATION. THE PROGRAM STILL FOCUSES ON OUR CORE EDUCATIONAL SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING BUT IN AN ENVIRONMENT THAT CAN BE TAUGHT BOTH VIRTUALLY AND IN SCHOOL WHEN WE ARE ABLE. STUDENTS RECEIVED 360 HOURS OF PROJECT-BASED LEARNING THAT WORKING COLLABORATIVELY FOLLOWED MANY OF THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF STEM BASED LEARNING ALL WHILE INTERACTING IN A FAMILIAR VIDEO GAME ENVIRONMENT. THE SUCCESS OF, AND DEMAND FOR MORE ME PROGRAM OFFERINGS HAS LED TO SCALING AND EXPANSION PLANS TO TRAIN MORE TEACHERS WITH A PLANNED CURRICULUM IN ORDER TO IMPACTFULLY REACH MORE STUDENTS IN MORE SCHOOLS IN THE GREATER TRENTON COMMUNITY.

NJTL OF TRENTON'S OUTREACH PROGRAM (FREE TO ALL) INTRODUCES AND INSTRUCTS TENNIS BASICS TO FAMILIES IN THE UNDER-RESOURCED GREATER TRENTON COMMUNITY. PROGRAMS SUCH AS YOUTH AND ADULT INTRODUCE THE ENTIRE FAMILY TO THE SPORT OF TENNIS TO ENCOURAGE AN ENJOYABLE, HEALTHY SHARED ACTIVITY. INSTRUCTIONAL AND CHALLENGING TENNIS CLINICS DURING THE SPRING, SUMMER AND FALL ARE OFFERED IN TWO TRENTON PARKS WHERE WE MAINTAIN AND SECURE OVER 8 FULL SIZED COURTS AND 16 SMALL SIZED COURTS. IN 2020, WE ADAPTED AND FOLLOWED STRICT GUIDELINES OF THE USTA, THE STATE OF NEW JERSEY AND FEDERAL AUTHORITIES TO OFFER OVER 3,000 HOURS OF TENNIS CLINICS. DUE TO SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS AROUND COVID-19 OUR CLINICS FIRST ADAPTED TO VIRTUAL-INTERACTIVE TENNIS AND FITNESS INSTRUCTIONAL OFFERINGS AND LATER DEVELOPED TO ON COURT CLINICS WITH STRICTLY ADHERED TO DAILY SAFE DISTANCING AND PROCEDURES FOLLOWED. IN LIEU OF NOT BEING ABLE TO OFFER FREE MEALS AT OUR TRADITIONAL SUMMER CAMP (CLOSED DUE TO COVID-19 CONCERNS) IN 2020 WE GAVE OUT GIFT CARDS FOR FAMILIES AT OUR ADAPTED SUMMER CLINICS TO USE AT LOCAL FOOD PROVIDERS. IN 2020 NJTL OF TRENTON WAS BOTH CREATIVE AND PROACTIVE AS WE CAME TO UNDERSTAND THAT THE ONLY CONSTANT DURING THE PANDEMIC WAS CHANGE, AND CHANGE WE DID TO CONTINUALLY SERVE OUR STUDENT-ATHLETES AND THEIR FAMILIES IN A SAFE AND IMPACTFUL WAY.
