TO PROVIDE ACCESSIBLE AND AFFORDABLE INDIVIDUAL, COUPLE, FAMILY AND GROUP COUNSELING FOR THE LOW-INCOME CHILDREN, ADULTS, FAMILIES AND SENIORS OF THE GREATER ESSEX COUNTY AREA AS WELL IN MORRIS, UNION, HUDSON, AND MIDDLESEX COUNTIES. ACCESSIBLE MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES IS NOW RESULTING IN MORE THAN 500 CHILDREN, COUPLES, FAMILIES, AND SENIORS BEING ASSISTED WEEKLY BY BILINGUAL STAFF.
MAIN ST. COUNSELING CENTER PROVIDES AFFORDABLE MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES TO CHILDREN, ADULTS, SENIORS, AND FAMILIES THROUGHOUT GREATER NORTHERN NEW JERSEY. WE ASSIST OVER 550 CLIENTS EACH WEEK THROUGH A VARIETY OF PROGRAMS, INCLUDING INNOVATIVE OUTREACH SERVICES, AND WE PROVIDE NEARLY 30,000 THERAPY SESSIONS EACH YEAR. OUR CENTER MAKES EFFECTIVE MENTAL HEALTH CARE ACCESSIBLE TO LOW-INCOME AND UNDERINSURED INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES WHO DO NOT HAVE OTHER VIABLE TREATMENT OPTIONS.AFTER FOUR DECADES OF COMMUNITY SERVICE, WE CONTINUE TO REMOVE BARRIERS TO CARE BY ACCEPTING MEDICAID AND MEDICARE, OFFERING INCOME-BASED FEES, STAFFING BILINGUAL SOCIAL WORKERS, OWNING A HANDICAP-ACCESSIBLE BUILDING NEAR PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION, AND BY NOT HAVING ANY CATCHMENT AREA RESTRICTIONS.
OUR LONG-STANDING SCHOOL-BASED COUNSELING PROGRAM COLLABORATES WITH SEVERAL PUBLIC AND CHARTER SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT NEWARK AND THE ORANGES. THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES ON-SITE MENTORING AND COUNSELING FOR CHILDREN SEVERELY IN NEED OF SUPPORT. OUR CULTURALLY COMPETENT AND BILINGUAL SOCIAL WORKERS SUCCESSFULLY ADDRESS ANGER AND DEPRESSION IN CHILDREN OF ALL GRADES, FROM PRESCHOOL THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL. STUDENTS WE TREAT CONSISTENTLY REENGAGE IN ACADEMICS AND IMPROVE SELF-SABOTAGING BEHAVIORS. THIS CRUCIAL PROGRAM HELPS AT-RISK YOUTH OVERCOME THE MANY CHALLENGES THEY FACE, INCLUDING POVERTY, VIOLENCE, ABUSE, AND PARENTAL ABANDONMENT. FOR MANY OF THESE STUDENTS, OUR PROGRAM IS THE ONLY OPPORTUNITY THEY HAVE TO RECEIVE QUALITY MENTAL HEALTH CARE.
ALONG WITH THE MANY SENIOR CITIZENS WE TREAT AT OUR FACILITY IN WEST ORANGE, OUR SOCIAL WORKERS ALSO TREAT LOW-INCOME OLDER ADULTS THROUGH ON-SITE SERVICES AT THE JAMES A. DEGNAN HOUSE IN WEST ORANGE, THE BALLANTINE HOUSE IN NEWARK,AND FOREST HILL HOUSE IN NEWARK. OUR SOCIAL WORKERS TRAVEL TO THESE SITES WEEKLY AND PROVIDE FREE MENTAL HEALTH WORKSHOPS. THESE WORKSHOPS FOCUS ON DEPRESSION RESULTING FROM PASSING OF A LOVED ONE, FEELINGS OF ISOLATION, AND THE LOSS OF INDEPENDENCE, ALONG WITH TIPS TO ELIMINATE MEDICATION ABUSE AND OTHER SENIOR-SPECIFIC ISSUES.
