Organizations Filed Purposes: THE ORGANIZATION'S MISSION IS TO RAISE, DEVELOP, AND MANAGE RESOURCES, AND TO COMMUNICATE TO AND WITH THE PUBLIC REGARDING THE DAUGHTERS OF SARAH SENIOR COMMUNITY'S PROGRAMS AND INITIATIVES IS ACCOMPLISHED BY CONDUCTING FUNDRAISING AND KNOWLEDGE AWARENESS PROGRAMS, AND BY ISSUING GRANTS TO THE DAUGHTERS OF SARAH NURSING CENTER, INC. AND THE DAUGHTERS OF SARAH HOUSING COMPANY, INC., D/B/A THE MASSRY RESIDENCE AT DAUGHTERS OF SARAH.

THE ORGANIZATION IS A COMMUNITY OF CONCERNED INDIVIDUALS DEDICATED TO BEING A SUPPORTIVE AND TRANSFORMATIVE PRESENCE FOR THE DAUGHTERS OF SARAH SENIOR COMMUNITY. ITS MISSION IS TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF LIFE, ASSURE THE SAFETY AND DIGNITY, AND FOSTER THE INDEPENDENCE OF THOSE WE SERVE THROUGH RESIDENTIAL, PERSONAL CARE, HEALTH AND OTHER SERVICES, CONSISTENT WITH JEWISH VALUES AND TRADITIONS. ITS FOCUS IS TO DO SO BY RAISING, DEVELOPING AND MANAGING RESOURCES, COMMUNICATING TO AND WITH THE PUBLIC REGARDING THESE PROGRAMS AND INITIATIVES, AND DISBURSING FUNDS TO SUPPORT, ENRICH AND ENHANCE THE PROGRAMS, SERVICES AND INITIATIVES FOR THE WELL AND INFIRM ELDERLY WE SERVE.

THE ORGANIZATION'S GOAL TO SUPPORT, ENRICH AND ENHANCE PROGRAMS AND SERVICES FOR THE WELL AND INFIRM ELDERLY IS ACCOMPLISHED BY ISSUING GRANTS TO THE DAUGHTERS OF SARAH NURSING & REHABILITATION CENTER, INC. GRANTS TO THE NURSING CENTER PROVIDE FOR DIRECT NURSING AND PERSONAL CARE TO INFIRM NURSING HOME RESIDENTS. IT IS ESTIMATED THAT 61% OF THE RESIDENTS ARE INDIGENT, WITH THE COST OF THEIR CARE BEING PAID FOR BY MEDICAID (WHICH DOES NOT PROVIDE REIMBURSEMENT TO COVER THE ACTUAL COST OF RESIDENT CARE). THIS GRANT ALSO HELPS UNDERWRITE THE COSTS OF PROVIDING KOSHER FOOD IN KEEPING WITH THE JEWISH DIETARY LAWS, IN PROVIDING A RABBI FOR PASTORAL COUNSELING AND JEWISH PROGRAMMING, IN PROVIDING CANTOR SERVICES FOR PASSOVER SEDERS, PASSOVER WORSHIP SERVICES AND HIGH HOLY WORSHIP SERVICES, AND PROVIDING ENTERTAINMENT AND ACTIVITIES PROGRAMMING MAINTAINING JEWISH TRADITIONS. IN ADDITION, THE ORGANIZATION CONDUCTS AN ANNUAL FUND RAISING CAMPAIGN (THE "ANNUAL FUND") THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, AS WELL AS A SERIES OF LOW KEY, TARGETED FUNDRAISING EFFORTS SURROUNDING THE OCCURRENCE OF CERTAIN JEWISH HOLIDAYS. IT HOSTS AN ANNUAL SIGNATURE FUNDRAISING SOCIAL EVENT FOR THE PUBLIC AT A LOCAL MUSEUM, GENERALLY IN NOVEMBER, FOR WHICH IT SOLICITS CORPORATE AND INDIVIDUAL SPONSOR SHIPS. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO HOSTS AN ANNUAL SOCIAL EVENT DURING THE SUMMER TO CELEBRATE ITS LEADERSHIP DONORS. IT HAS BEEN SPONSORING A SPRING COOKING DEMONSTRATION EVENT FOR YOUNGER COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO GENERATE AN UNDERSTANDING OF, AND NURTURE SUPPORT FOR, DAUGHTERS OF SARAH SENIOR COMMUNITY WITHIN A SEGMENT OF THE COMMUNITY NOT TYPICALLY AWARE OF THE SERVICES PROVIDED BY, OR THE ACTIVITIES OF, SENIOR CARE FACILITIES. THE ORGANIZATION FURTHER COORDINATES THE OPERATION OF "SARAH'S CORNER", A GIFT SHOP FOR THE ENJOYMENT OF THE RESIDENTS, GUESTS AND STAFF OF DAUGHTERS OF SARAH SENIOR COMMUNITY, WHICH SHOP IS LOCATED IN THE DAUGHTERS OF SARAH NURSING CENTER. THE RESULT OF THESE ACTIVITIES IS TO ELEVATE THE COMMUNAL AWARENESS OF THE DAUGHTERS OF SARAH SENIOR COMMUNITY, TO EDUCATE THE COMMUNITY AS TO THE PROGRAMS AND SERVICES PROVIDED TO THE SENIORS WE SERVE, TO CREATE AND STRENGTHEN A SUPPORT BASE OF INDIVIDUALS WHO WILL DONATE TO AND PUBLICLY ADVOCATE FOR THE SENIOR COMMUNITY, AND TO RAISE FUNDS TO SUPPORT THE ORGANIZATION'S OPERATIONS AND MISSION.

THE ORGANIZATION'S GOAL TO SUPPORT, ENRICH AND ENHANCE PROGRAMS AND SERVICES FOR THE WELL AND INFIRM ELDERLY IS ACCOMPLISHED BY ISSUING GRANTS TO THE HOUSING COMPANY TO PROVIDE HOUSING SCHOLARSHIPS THAT SUBVENT THE COST OF RESIDENCY AT THE DAUGHTERS OF SARAH HOUSING COMPANY'S ASSISTED LIVING RESIDENCE. THIS GRANT ENABLES NEEDY INDIVIDUALS, UNABLE TO PAY THE FULL COST OF CARE, TO RECEIVE THE LEVEL OF PERSONAL CARE ASSISTANCE THEY NEED TO CARRY OUT THEIR REGULAR ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING AND TO REMAIN IN AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE THEY CAN RECEIVE KOSHER MEALS IN ACCORDANCE WITH JEWISH DIETARY LAWS AND A LEAST RESTRICTIVE PROGRAMMING, ENTERTAINMENT AND ACTIVITIES IN KEEPING WITH JEWISH TRADITIONS. GRANTS HAVE ALSO ESTABLISHED A LIFELONG EDUCATIONAL LEARNING PROGRAM, BRINGING RABBIS AND COLLEGE PROFESSORS TO PRESENT ADVANCED COURSES ON JEWISH CULTURAL, RELIGIOUS, HISTORICAL AND POLITICAL TOPICS.

THE ORGANIZATION HAS PROVIDED FUNDING TO SUPPORT THE ENHANCEMENT OF RESIDENT FOCUSED SERVICES AT THE DAUGHTERS OF SARAH NURSING & REHABILITATION CENTER, INCLUDING: A COMPREHENSIVE PROJECT TO TRAIN STAFF IN RECENTLY EMERGING TECHNIQUES TO ASSIST, PROGRAM FOR, AND IMPROVE THE DAILY EXPERIENCE OF, RESIDENTS SUFFERING FROM THE RAVAGES OF ALZHEIMER AND RELATED DEMENTIA DISEASES, AND SPECIFIC UNIT DIRECTED ACTIVITIES APPROPRIATE TO INDIVIDUALIZED COGNITIVE, EMOTIONAL AND SPIRITUAL NEEDS. IN ADDITION, A TUITION REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM HAS BEEN FUNDED TO REIMBURSE TUITION COSTS EXPENDED BY STAFF SEEKING TO IMPROVE THEIR SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE FOR THE BETTERMENT OF RESIDENT CARE BY PROCURING ADDITIONAL PROFESSIONAL DEGREES (LPN, RN, MSW, ETC). FURTHER, GRANTS HAVE BEEN MADE TO CREATE A PUBLIC LECTURE ON ASPECTS OF AGING AND CUTTING EDGE CARE TECHNIQUES. THE LECTURES WILL PROVIDE FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE DEALING WITH DEMENTIA, END OF LIFE, AND RELATED EMERGING TOPICS. FUNDING HAS FURTHER BEEN MADE AVAILABLE TO OPERATE A RESTORATIVE NURSING PROGRAM, ENHANCING THE LEVELS OF CARE PROVIDED TO RESIDENTS.
