TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES.
INDIVIDUAL RESIDENTIAL ALTERNATIVE - THE IRA PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE INDIVIDUALS WITH UNIQUE ABILITIES AND CHALLENGES, THE OPPORTUNITY TO LIVE IN A HOME IN THE COMMUNITY AS A FAMILY WITH RESIDENTS OF COMPATIBLE FUNCTIONAL CAPABILITY. LOCATED THROUGHOUT SUFFOLK COUNTY, THESE HOMES PROVIDE INDIVIDUALS WITH UNIQUE ABILITIES AND CHALLENGES WITH THE SECURITY, PLEASURE AND COMFORTS FOUND IN ALL ASPECTS OR NORMAL, WHOLESOME FAMILY LIFE. THERE ARE THIRTY-ONE HOMES IN ALL.
DAY HABILITATION - THE GOAL OF THE DAY HABILITATION PROGRAM IS TO IDENTIFY AND PROVIDE ACTIVITIES AND SUPPORTS THAT ARE CONSISTENT, PROACTIVE, LESS STRUCTURED AND NOT AS DEMANDING AS THOSE ON WORK ACTIVITIES. THIS APPROACH ALLOWS THE INDIVIDUAL TO ACQUIRE, RETAIN AND IMPROVE SELF- HELP, SOCIALIZATION, AND ADAPTIVE SKILLS NECESSARY FOR SUCCESSFUL PARTICIPATION IN INTEGRATED HOME AND COMMUNITY SETTINGS. PROGRAM OBJECTIVES ARE FOCUSED AROUND THE DEVELOPMENT AND/OR MAINTENANCE OF INDIVIDUAL SKILL, INTEREST AND ABILITIES.
INTERMEDIATE CARE FACILITIES - THE ICF PROGRAM PROVIDES RESIDENTIAL SERVICES FOR THOSE CHILDREN AND ADULTS WHO CANNOT ACCESS A CONVENTIONAL COMMUNITY RESIDENCE DUE TO THE SEVERITY OF THEIR HANDICAP. THE GOAL OF THIS PROGRAM IS TO PROVIDE EACH MULTIPLE DISABLED INDIVIDUAL A WHOLESOME LIVING ARRANGEMENT UNDER BARRIER-FREE ARCHITECTURAL CONDITIONS AND TO OFFER THESE RESIDENTIAL SERVICES AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO LIVING AT HOME OR LIVING IN AN INSTITUTION.
