Organizations Filed Purposes:
As an artist-created organization, we cultivate a supportive community by hosting free large-scale art fairs and studio residency programs for under-represented artists, and by tailoring arts education programs for underserved youth. With a strong focus on artistic excellence and inclusion, we revitalize historic spaces with contemporary art, as we continue to enrich and expand our creative community: a socially, economically, and culturally diverse reflection of New York City itself.
4heads - Portal: Governors Island":Held every weekend in September since 2008, Portal:GI is an art fair focused on independent artists. 4heads connects artists to the public, the press and the art industry. Most of the artists in Portal:GI live in NYC. We show 100+ artists per year. There is a one time $35 to apply to be considered for Portal:GI. Upon acceptance; artists get an entire room in the historic houses on Governors Island to curate their own room.
4heads - Governors Island Artist in Residence:4heads invites all of our past GIAF (750) artists to apply for a May- Octoberresidency in a historic building on Governors Island. 4heads chooses 12-17 artistsper season based on need for space and artistic talent. The studios are open to thepublic weekends from June- September.
