Organizations Filed Purposes:
Academy of Medical & Public Health Services is a not-for-profit health service organization with a triple aim to identify barriers to health and wellness in underserved immigrant communities; coordinate truly needed primary care with social assistance; and deliver care with dignity and empathy to marginalized New Yorkers. Through its community public health interventions, AMPHS lends to the empowerment of individuals and communities to create their own local and culturally-sensitive health and wellness paradigms. Its programs include no-cost health screenings and counseling, consultations, mental health services, social services, English as a Second Language classes, emergency preparedness trainings, and immigrant rights education.
In 2019, the Community Health Project provided free health screenings, health consultations, social assistance, health literacy classes, and mental health counseling for over 5000 community members. Services were administered through in-house open office hours, pop-up health events, as well as AMPHS' Annual Health Empowerment Celebration, which brought together 60+ organizations to share health and social service resources with 1250+ community members. Grassroots outreach efforts through the health program reached over 10,000 individuals.
The Adult Literacy Program offers free English as a Second Language classes to immigrant adults. In 2019, AMPHS offered two semesters of literacy programming across the Beginner, High Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced, totaling nine different classes and serving a total of 300+ enrolled students.
In 2019, we offered Immigrant Rights Workshops through a collaboration with the Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs to over 800 attendees.
