Organizations Filed Purposes:
The Alex House Project (AHP) is a 501c3 nonprofit, peer-led social service and leadership development organization. We support pregnant and parenting mothers and young fathers living in NYC, particularly Brooklyn where we are based. Our mission is to increase long-term family-sufficiency by providing a safe and nurturing environment for parent education and leadership development with support to access higher education and the workforce.
Nurturing Parenting: an 8-week parenting course and a series of support services classes that increase the ability of young mothers and young fathers to become family-sufficient. The course covers topics from healthcare to self-care, co-parenting, nutrition, baby basics and more. Leadership and Development: Our approach actively enables our clients to perceive themselves as change agents; we enable them to recognize that the wisdom of their lived experience is essential to create and deliver effective programs and to inform public policy and wide-scale solutions that can affect many more lives in the future. Our participants gain education access and workforce development throughout the year of enrollment. Training and Employment: We train and employ young parents to deliver our parenting classes to other young parents, TAHP is peer-based. Through our holistic approach, our mothers and fathers design, create, disseminate, and mentorour clients become our leaders. Our programs and services are designed so young parents provide and teach parenting and leadership skills to newer young parents. We provide referral and placement for young parents who seek employment through our business relationships. Alex House Project, has offered parenting trainng and services to over 75 indiviuals in 2017.
