Bargemusic has continued for 45 years to be dedicated to enhancing the cultural life of New York City.
For 45 years Bargemusic continues to be dedicated to enhancing the cultural life of new York City by presenting nearly 200 concerts annually, giving performance opportunities to a diverse group of musicians and serving the community by providing free ticktes and making the entire canon of classical chamber music available and accessible to everyone in a unique floating concert hall.
Masterworks Series: presenting the entire canon of chamber music, bargemusic's programs are curated by artistic director mark perskanov. masterworks series highlights: scribin inspired by chopin concerts ( with commentaries); new perspectives on bach cello suites (complete suites with commentary on cello; and on violin); ivan llic new york dubet in 3 concerts; the complete piano sonatas of beethoven (with Marika bournaki); legendary pianists in recital series; beethoven's birthday weekend: celebrating the opus 18 quartes; journeys (song settings of world poetry); violin virtuso series; holiday concerts on christmas eve, christmas day, new year's eve, and new year's day; free annual double concert commemorating 9/11; and core masterwords recital and chamber concerts including: piano trios and quartxxets; string trios, quartes and octets; in music of barber, berlioz, debussy, haydn, liszt mendelssohn, mozart, paderewski, porter, poulenc, ravel, reicha, schnittke, smetana, telemann, and tohers. performs: violist alla aronovskaya, christine bouey, stephan chase, ralp evans, daniel kogan, johnny gandelsman, mark peskanov; painist timo andres, steven beck, jeffrey biegal, lara downes, adam golka, francine key, nina logan, ester park, tao lin; cellists edward arron, sean hawthorne, dmitry louzov, julian scharz, wendy sutter; ensembles amernet quartet, fina arts quartet, horszowski trio, semplice players, ulysses quartet; and others. In FY 2010 Bargemusic received critical acclaim from The New York Times, The New Yorker Magazine, Strad Magazine among others for its presentations featuring such artists as cellists: Alisa Weilerstein, Nicholas Canellakis, Edward Arron, Wendy Sutter, Matt Haimovitz, and Marie Elizabeth Hecker; Violinists: Mark Peskanov, Rachel Barton Pine, Tim Fain, Pamela Frank, Colin Jacobson and Jessie Mills: Pianists: Ursula Oppens, Ignat Solzhenitsyn, Pedja Muzijevic, Stephen Gosling, Steven Beck, Blair McMillen, Beth Levin, Taka Kigawa, Jeffrey Swann and Lisa Moore. Groups included the Salome Chamber Orchestra, Shanghai Quartet, Weilerstein Trio, St Pertersburg Quartet, Trio con Brio Copenhagen, The Cassatt Quartets, The Complete Bach Cello Suites, The Complete Bach Solo Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin, Complete solo piano works by Leos Janacek, Schubert "WinterreiseX and "Die Schone Mullerin", Brahms string Sextets, Mozart and Weber Quintets for Clarinet & Strings, Beethoven The Complete Lieder, and The Bicentennial Celebration of Franz Liszt.
Admission Free " Music in Motion" family-friendly concert series: Bargemusic popular admission free concerts, on staturdays at 4 p.m. continue to draw a large and diverse audience. The one hour performances, followed by a Q & A session, feature world class musicians, and make the canon of chamber music accessible to all ages. These concerts provide an educational experience for the audience by creating the opportunity for them to hear and discuss the music with the musicians. The programs are drawn from the Masterwork and here & now series and include many of the same performers. They aslo service as a showcase for emerging artists.
The Here and Now & The There and Then Series:Bargemusic's critically acclaimed contemporary music series, including our annual Winter Festival and Labor Day Here and Now Festival, presented World, US, and New York premieres by composers including jonathan howard katz, paul chihara, stanely walden, marty regan, jonathan cziner, david taylor, timo andres, debra kaye, isang yun, davi land, grazyna bacewicz, hans otte, keeril makan, melaine dailbert, scott wollschleger, david del tredici, david shohl, chen yihan jyudmilla german, kyoto hirari, zhihua hu, akeni maito, michael schelle, toshi ichiyanagi, miho sasaki, lera auerbach, ned rorem, hose serebrier, emilo teubal, rob schiwimmer, russell platt, scott wheeler, mayo miro johnson, veronika krausas, lev "loyova" zhurbin, adolphus Hailstor, takuma, itoh, eric moe, kevin puts. performances included "hans otte: the book of sounds, " in celebration of independece day, "tokyo to new york, ""Fugues in flight, :"heart of hearing and beyond"(music for theremin, piano, haken continuum).
