Organizations Filed Purposes:
Brighter Green is a public policy action tank that works to raise awareness of and encourage policy action that span the environment, animals, and sustainability. Based in New York, Brighter Green works in the U.S. and internationally with a focus on the countries of the global South and a strong committment to ensuring and expanding equity and rights.
The Asia Program includes policy analysis, knowledge exchange, and regional and global cooperation in support of sustainable food and agriculture systems. In 2019, the program produced publications in English and Chinese,invested in capacity of organizations and individuals, and co-organized two major events. The first was a third "good food" summit in China which featured new research, approaches, institutional and university-based initiatives, public education and youth perspectives for food systems,climate change, public health, animal welfare,and livelihoods. The second was an experiential learning tour of U.S. universities for Chinese chefs, educators, and journalists to increase understanding of sustainable food and plant-forward food service. Asia Program activities reached hundreds of thousands in the Asian region on- and offline. Program outcomes, publications and perspectives also serve tens of thousands in the U.S. and internationally through conferences,presentations, online channels, and in the media/social media.
The Global Climate Advocacy program combines research,policy analysis,and capacity and knowledge development and fosters collaboration in the U.S. and globally among civil society organizations for equitable, sustainable, and humane food and agricultural systems. Program activities included participation in global, national, and regional climate change and sustainable development conferences, presentations to universities and organizations (on- and offline), convening of dialogues and networks, and supporting capacity development for global South colleagues and and emerging leaders. In 2019, this included presentations at and co-hosting of a moderated discussion at a pan-African conference in Ethiopia, and contributing to conference planning costs. The program reaches many thousands of people directly on- and off-line, and thousands more through dissemination of research and analysis; peer-to-peer learning and information-sharing; media outreach; and engagement with other civil society organizations, researchers, academics, policy-makers, students, and philanthropists.
A landmark anthology in development, the book Brotha Vegan (to be published in 2021), will unpack the lived experience of Black men in the U.S. of veganism, fatherhood, politics, sexuality, gender, health, popular culture, spirituality, food, animal advocacy, and the environment. This is a joint project with Lantern Publishing and Media, which obtained nonprofit status in 2020. Thousands of people will be served directly by reading and engaging with the book across multiple formats (print, digital, audio) and many thousands more will be informed by exposure to the book's content through dissemination of excerpts, videos, blogs, social media and media posts/articles, and on- and offline programming led by the book's writers, editor, and other collaborators.
