Organizations Filed Purposes: THE CENTER FOR POPULAR DEMOCRACY WORKS TO CREATE EQUITY, OPPORTUNITY AND A DYNAMIC DEMOCRACY IN PARTNERSHIP WITH HIGH-IMPACT BASE-BUILDING ORGANIZATIONS, ORGANIZING ALLIANCES, AND PROGRESSIVE UNIONS. CPD STRENGTHENS OUR COLLECTIVE CAPACITY TO ENVISION AND WIN AN INNOVATIVE PRO-WORKER, PRO-IMMIGRANT, RACIAL AND ECONOMIC JUSTICE AGENDA.

WORKS TO CREATE EQUITY, OPPORTUNITY AND A DYNAMIC DEMOCRACY.

HOSTED ORGANIZATIONS:THROUGH ITS HOSTED PROGRAM, CPD HELPS NEW AND EMERGING SOCIAL JUSTICE AND ADVOCACY ORGANIZATIONS TO DEVELOP AND GROW BY PROVIDING A DIVERSITY OF SERVICES CONTEXTUALIZED FOR EACH HOSTED ORGANIZATION. SERVICES INCLUDE MENTORSHIP AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, ACCESS TO MANAGEMENT AND TRAINING PROGRAMS, AS WELL AS FINANCIAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT AND FISCAL SPONSORSHIP. AS AN INCUBATOR, CPD IS A CATALYST MECHANISM FOR LOCAL AND REGIONAL BASE BUILDING. OUR GOAL IS TO FOSTER A VIBRANT ADVOCACY COMMUNITY AND FUEL INNOVATION WITHIN THE SOCIAL JUSTICE SPACE. IN 2019, CPD PROVIDED THESE SERVICES TO ELEVEN (11) 501(C)(3) PROJECTS, AND ASSISTED SIX (6) HOSTED PROJECTS IN ROLLING OFF TO OTHER HOSTING ENTITIES.

CAMPAIGNS:CPD'S CAMPAIGNS PROGRAM RUNS CAMPAIGNS IN CONCERT WITH OUR NETWORK ORGANIZATIONS THAT AIM TO ENSURE OUR COMMUNITIES HAVE ACCESS TO GOOD SCHOOLS, AFFORDABLE HOUSING, QUALITY HEALTHCARE, EQUAL OPPORTUNITY FOR IMMIGRANTS, CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM, GREATER CORPORATE ACCOUNTABILITY, A RESILIENT AND FAIR ECONOMY, AND A ROBUST AND RESPONSIVE DEMOCRACY. CPD'S CAMPAIGN SUCCESSES IN 2019 INCLUDED CONTRIBUTING TO POLICY REFORMS SUCH AS MAKING DRIVER'S LICENSES AVAILABLE TO ALL ELIGIBLE NY STATE RESIDENTS, REGARDLESS OF IMMIGRATION STATUS, ADVOCATING FOR SWEEPING STATE-WIDE EVICTION MORATORIUMS IN PENNSYLVANIA, MAINE, FLORIDA, AND MICHIGAN. CPD WORKED WITH NETWORK ORGANIZATIONS IN MARYLAND, NORTH CAROLINA, AND CALIFORNIA TO WIN IMPORTANT CITY AND COUNTY-LEVEL RENT FREEZES, UTILITY RESTORATIONS FOR PEOPLE WITH NO HEAT OR WATER, AND RENT CAPS, AND SUPPORTED MINIMUM WAGE INCREASES AND PROTECTIONS IN NEVADA, ARIZONA, NEW MEXICO AND COLORADO, IMPACTING OVER 600,000 PEOPLE.

BASEBULDING:CPD'S BASEBUILDING PROGRAM PROVIDES DIRECT FIELD CAPACITY TO OUR NETWORK OF ORGANIZATIONS AND BUILDS MEMBERSHIP AND LEADERSHIP IN COMMUNITIES MOST IMPACTED BY STRUCTURAL RACISM AND CAPITALISM. CPD PROVIDES COACHING, TRAIN-THE-TRAINERS EXPERIENCES, AND DIRECT TRAINING TO ORGANIZING STAFF AND GRASSROOTS LEADERS. THESE TRAININGS HELP LEADERS DEVELOP THEIR SKILLS FOR BASEBUILDING, TAKING ACTION, AND WINNING CAMPAIGNS. IN 2019, CPD'S BASEBUILDING PROGRAM CONDUCTED FIVE INTENSIVE CAMPAIGN TRAININGS WITH LOCAL NETWORK ORGANIZATION STAFF, ENGAGING OVER 120 NEW ORGANIZERS AND ORGANIZING SUPERVISORS IN CONDUCTING OUTREACH AND FOLLOW-UP EFFORTS IN REAL-TIME TO ADVANCE CAMPAIGN OBJECTIVES; SUPPORTED INDIVIDUALS FROM 16 NETWORK PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS IN PARTICIPATING IN BI-MONTHLY WEBINARS AND A 3-DAY IN-PERSON RETREAT TO BUILD THEIR FUNDRAISING CAPACITY AND SKILLS; AND LED A SERIES OF GRASSROOTS LEADERSHIP WORKSHOPS WITH MORE THAN 400 PARTICIPANTS.
