Organizations Filed Purposes: AT CITY LIVING NY, OUR MISSION IS TO EMPOWER YOUTH AGING OUT OF FOSTER CARE TO SUCCESSFULLY TRANSITION INTO ADULTHOOD. WE START BY PROVIDING CLIENTS WITH URGENTLY NEEDED ITEMS SUCH AS DISHES AND BEDDING TO TURN THEIR APARTMENT INTO A HOME. WE CONTINUE OUR SUPPORT UNTIL AGE 26 COACHING OUR CLIENTS TO WORK TOWARDS STABILITY AND SELF-SUFFICIENCY BY OFFERING ONGOING SUPPORTING COUNSELING AND CONNECTIONS TO MATCH THEIR UNIQUE NEEDS AND ASPIRATIONS.

AT CITY LIVING NY, OUR MISSION IS TO EMPOWER YOUTH AGING OUT OF FOSTER CARE TO SUCCESSFULLY TRANSITION INTO ADULTHOOD BY PROVIDING CONCRETE RESOURCES, TOOLS, AND SUPPORT SERVICES.

OUR COMPREHENSIVE SERVICES PROGRAM (CSP) HAS WORKED WITH OVER 79 YOUTH SINCE INCEPTION TO SET UP THEIR FIRST APARTMENTS AND SUPPORT THEM IN WORKING TOWARD THEIR EDUCATIONAL, EMPLOYMENT, AND SOCIO-EMOTIONAL GOALS. SOCIAL WORKERS CONTACT THESE YOUNG PEOPLE WEEKLY TO CHECK IN AND HELP STRENGTHEN THEIR PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL STABILITY. ON THE CAREER FRONT, CLNY ASSISTS YOUTH WITH RESUME WRITING AND JOB SEARCHES, CAREER COUNSELING, AND INTERVIEW READINESS. MANY OF OUR YOUTH HAVE GAINED EMPLOYMENT BECAUSE OF THESE EFFORTS. WE ASSIST YOUNG PEOPLE WITH EDUCATION NEEDS - HELPING COLLEGE YOUTH WITH TUITION ISSUES, INTERNSHIP GUIDANCE, RE-ENROLLMENT CHALLENGES, AND REFERRALS FOR TUTORING AND ACADEMIC ADVISEMENT. FOR OUR NON-COLLEGE ENROLLED YOUTH, WE MAKE REFERRALS TO APPROPRIATE GED OR VOCATIONAL PROGRAMS, AND HELP THEM PLAN FOR THE FUTURE. CLNY PROVIDES YOUTH WITH MENTAL HEALTH REFERRALS, FINANCIAL LITERACY TRAINING, PARENTING ITEMS AND NUTRITIONAL WORKSHOPS. MOST IMPORTANTLY, SOCIAL WORKERS ASSURE HOUSING STABILITY; OVER 50% OF OUR CLIENTS HAVE NEEDED SOME SORT OF HOUSING INTERVENTION TO REMAIN STABLY HOUSED. WHILE THE OVERALL STATISTICS ON FORMER FOSTER YOUTH RATES OF HOMELESSNESS ARE STAGGERING, AS OF TODAY, 100% OF OUR CLIENTS CURRENTLY REMAIN IN THEIR APARTMENTS.

CLNY HAS SERVED AN ADDITIONAL 62 YOUTH IN OUR HOME GOODS ADVOCACY (HGA) PROGRAM. THIS PROGRAM WAS DESIGNED TO MEET THE NEEDS OF BOTH OUR YOUTH AND OUR REFERRAL PARTNERS. CLNY COLLABORATES WITH THE ADMINISTRATION FOR CHILDREN'S SERVICES (ACS) TO ASSIST YOUTH 18-21 WHO ARE STILL IN FOSTER CARE BUT LIVING ON THEIR OWN. WE ALSO PARTNER WITH GIRLS EDUCATIONAL & MENTORING SERVICES (GEMS), AN AGENCY WHICH EMPOWERS YOUTH WHO EXPERIENCED COMMERCIAL SEXUAL EXPLOITATION AND UNFORTUNATELY SEES A HIGH CROSSOVER WITH THE FOSTER CARE POPULATION. OTHER LONG-TERM PARTNERS SUCH AS CASA-NYC, NEW YORKERS FOR CHILDREN, NURSE FAMILY PARTNERSHIP, AND LEGAL AID ARE ALSO ABLE TO REFER THEIR CLIENTS TO THIS PROGRAM. WITH THESE CLIENTS, CLNY PROVIDES HOUSEHOLD GOODS, CHECK-INS QUARTERLY ON HOUSING STABILITY, AND INVITE THE YOUTH TO OUR WORKSHOPS AND TRAININGS WHERE THEY BENEFIT FROM THE PEER COMMUNITY AND INTERACTIONS THAT OCCUR THERE; THE REFERRING AGENCY STAFF TYPICALLY PROVIDES THE ONGOING SOCIAL WORK SUPPORT FOR THESE YOUTH THAT OUR COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM PROVIDES. OUR HOUSING CHECK-IN IS DESIGNED TO ASSURE ANY ISSUES THAT COULD IMPACT HOUSING STABILITY ARE DETECTED EARLY. MANY OF THESE YOUTH ARE ABLE TO TRANSITION INTO OUR COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM ONCE THEY TURN 21 OR DECIDE THEY WOULD LIKE TO RECEIVE MORE SERVICES.

CLNY HAS ESTABLISHED AN EMERGENCY GRANT PROGRAM THROUGH HELP FROM ACS AND OTHER FUNDERS. THIS PROGRAM BECAME EVEN MORE IMPORTANT THIS YEAR DURING COVID AS IT SUPPORTS OUR CLIENTS AND REFERRED YOUTH WITH HOME GOODS AS WELL AS SHORT TERM EMERGENCIES SUCH AS RENTAL ARREARS, FOOD EMERGENCIES, EMPLOYMENT RELATED EXPENSES, AND PAYMENT FOR UTILITIES SUCH AS HEAT, WIFI, PHONE BILLS, AND ELECTRIC. THIS FUND HAS ALSO BEEN ABLE TO ASSIST YOUTH WITH EDUCATIONAL EMERGENCIES SUCH AS ARREARS, LAPTOPS, AND BOOKS/SCHOOL SUPPLIES.
