Dancewave, Inc. is a nonprofit arts organization that transforms the lives of New York City youth through unique exposure to world-class, pre-professional performing arts training.
Dancewave provides access to a community dance experience that encourages individuality and whole-person development throughout New York City and beyond. Through innovative programming we use dance as an expressive vehicle for transformation. Dancewaves Culture Model creates an inclusive environment for all ages, abilities, sexual orientations, racial and socio-economic backgrounds. Through our Culture Model we provide educational dance classes in all five boroughs. In FY20 we provided over 70 residences in various public schools and community centers. In addition, we also offer year round youth classes, pre-professional company classes and adult classes at our Dancewave Center in Gowanus, Brooklyn. Teaching Artists of Dancewave must attend professional development workshops throughout the year, including our annual Strategies for Young Artist Citizens teacher training to ensure our culture model is being practiced throughout all of Dancewave's classes. Beyond Dancewave's dance education programs, Dancewave also holds an annual event, Dancewave Through College & Beyond, for high school students looking to further their career in dance. This event includes one on one opportunities with college representatives and alumni, as well as panel discussions, audition opportunities and master classes.
