THE FEDERATION OF ITALIAN-AMERICAN ORGANIZATIONS OF BROOKLYN, LTD. (THE FEDERATION) WAS INCORPORATED IN NEW YORK ON FEBRUARY 18, 1977, AS A NONPROFIT CORPORATION. THE FEDERATION PROVIDES VARIOUS SOCIAL SERVICES FOR THE COMMUNITY'S YOUTH, SENIORS AND IMMIGRANTS. SOME OF THE PROGRAM SERVICES PROVIDED INCLUDE SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION, YOUTH AND NEIGHBORHOOD OUTREACH, CULTURAL AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION LEADERSHIP PROGRAM, IMMIGRATION, AND ASSISTANCE TO FAMILIES IN NEED OF MEDICARE, MEDICAID, FOOD STAMPS, SOCIAL SECURITY AND EDUCATION.

IL CENTRO MULTICULTURAL COMMUNITY CENTER: THIS IS THE FIRST ITALIAN- AMERICAN MULTICULTURAL COMMUNITY CENTER IN NEW YORK, LOCATED IN SOUTHERN BROOKLYN. IT IS A MULTI-LEVEL 44,000 SQUARE FOOT FACILITY OUTFITTED WITH MODERN, STATE-OF-THE-ART EQUIPMENT AND TECHNOLOGY. LOCATION: 8711 18TH AVENUE, BROOKLYN NY 11214 IL CENTRO IS OPEN WHOLE YEAR ROUND FROM 6AM TO 11PM MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY AND 7AM TO 7PM SATURDAY TO SUNDAY, EXCEPT FOR CERTAIN PUBLIC HOLIDAYS. IL CENTRO SERVES ABOUT 1,200 YOUTH, ADULTS, AND FAMILIES, ABOUT 800 OF WHOM ARE REGULAR MEMBERS.

BEACON COMMUNITY CENTER: THIS IS A SCHOOL-BASED COMMUNITY CENTER THAT PROVIDES AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES THROUGHOUT THE WEEK FOR CHILDREN. LOCATION: 99 AVENUE P, BROOKLYN NY 11204 BEACON COMMUNITY CENTER IS OPEN IN THE SUMMER FROM 8AM TO 6PM MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY. DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR, THE CENTER IS OPEN FROM 2PM TO 10PM, AND ON SATURDAYS, FROM 9AM TO 1:30PM. IN ADDITION, THE CENTER IS OPEN 15 DAYS WHEN SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED FROM 8AM TO 6PM. BEACON COMMUNITY CENTER SERVES ABOUT 1,200 YOUTH, ADULTS, AND FAMILIES.

SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION PROGRAM (SAPP): SAPP IS AN EVIDENCE-BASED PREVENTION PROGRAM SPONSORED BY THE NYS OFFICE OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND PREVENTION SERVICES. IN ADDITION TO PREVENTION SERVICES, STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN VISUAL ARTS, PERFORMING ARTS, HEALTH, FITNESS AND BOARD GAMES. WE HAVE 12 SITES AND WE SERVE MORE THAN 1,000 PARTICIPANTS. THE HOURS OF OPERATION DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR DIFFER FROM SCHOOL TO SCHOOL, BUT WE ARE OPEN FROM DISMISSAL TO 3 HOURS AFTER DISMISSAL.
