2 Greenpoint Monitor Museum Road Show Local schools visited the Museums classroom now at MS126 The purpose of the Museums Road Show is to keep alive the memory of those who fought in the Civil War to save the union and end slavery To learn about the USS Monitor which was built in Greenpoint and the engineering accomplishments of its Swedish designer John Ericsson with steam power and solar energy to awaken an interest in engineering using John Ericsson as and example and to recognize the heroic participation of black and immigrant soldiers during the Civil War
3 GCEF Grant The Museum received a Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund Grant to cover the engineering services of AECOM who is preparing construction drawi specifications and obtain permits to restore and raise the Museums land shoreline for community access and flood protection Project partners include the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War PS110 the Monitor School and other local schools Activities related to this grant follow AECOM and Museum representatives participated in a GCEF Community Open House at McGolrich Park which also included other grant recipients
