Organizations Filed Purposes: LIVING TRADITIONS IS A HOME FOR MUSIC AND MUSIC-MAKERS. A MULTI FACETED ARTS SPACE CELEBRATING TRADITIONAL FOLK MUSIC THROUGH LIVE PERFORMANCES AND COMMUNAL LEARNING.

THE JALOPY THEATRE HAD A STRONG FISCAL YEAR, MAINTAINING ALL OF ITS PROGRAMS WHILE PIVOTING TO AN ONLINE PLATFORM DUE TO COVID-19. PRE-PANDEMIC, JALOPY RAN HUNDREDS OF CLASSES FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN, HOSTED FESTIVALS, AND PROGRAMMED FOLK AND TRADITIONAL MUSIC 6 DAYS EACH WEEK. IN ADDITION, JALOPY SERVED 99 NEW YORK CITY PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH A MUSIC ENRICHMENT PROGRAM IN THEIR CLASSROOMS. JALOPY RECORDS RELEASED A NEW VINYL ALBUM, CINNAMON TREE, BY 15-YEAR-OLD BANJOIST NORA BROWN; ALSO RELEASED WAS A DIGITAL RECORDING OF FAT BOY WILSON AND OLD VIEJO BONES. JALOPY CONTINUED ITS WORK DIGITIZING YIDDISH MUSIC RECORDINGS FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN. BETWEEN MID-MARCH AND THE END OF JUNE, THE JALOPY THEATRE WAS CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC. HOWEVER, WE HOSTED TWO ONLINE CONCERTS EACH WEEK, PROVIDING ENTERTAINMENT TO THOUSANDS AND ALLOWING US TO PAY HUNDREDS OF ARTISTS LEFT WITHOUT WORK DUE TO COVID-19. GROUP MUSIC CLASSES MOVED ONLINE, OFFERING MUSIC EDUCATION TO HUNDREDS OF ADULTS, AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR TEACHERS. THE STAFF OF THE JALOPY THEATRE WORKED TIRELESSLY TO TRANSITION TO AN ONLINE PLATFORM, TO TRAIN ARTISTS AND TEACHERS TO USE NEW TECHNOLOGY AND TO CONTINUE TO PRESENT THE BEST OF TRADITIONAL MUSIC TO FANS ACROSS THE GLOBE. THE BROOKLYN FOLK FESTIVAL, THE LARGEST URBAN FOLK FESTIVAL IN THE COUNTRY, TRANSITIONED TO ONLINE, AND A VIDEO GAME WAS CREATED TO MIMIC THE WORLD- FAMOUS BANJO TOSS CONTEST USUALLY HELD AT BROOKLYNS GOWANUS CANAL. THE SWAMP IN THE CITY, BROOKLYN INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL, AND STEEL GUITAR UNCONVENTION, ALSO TRANSITIONED TO ONLINE FESTIVALS. AN ADDITIONAL 100 PUBLIC SCHOOL CHILDREN RECEIVED MUSIC ENRICHMENT THROUGH THE COMMUNITY THROUGH MUSIC PROGRAM, THROUGH ZOOM.
