Organizations Filed Purposes:
NOCD-NY is a citywide alliance of cultural networks and community leaders that have joined together to revitalize New York City from the neighborhood up. NOCD-NY came together in 2010 in response to the vision, sustained needs, and creative resilience of our diverse communities. We facilitate peer learning, increase the visibility of community-based work, and advocate for it. NOCD-NY's work is grounded in values including equity, diversity, inclusion, and recognition of the integral role of arts and culture in communities. These shared values enable us to speak with a unified voice and are the glue that holds our alliance together over time.
Art and Public Housing - Arts and culture programs in public housing communities include cultural programming at Gowanus community center and Queensbridge Houses, artist residencies, partnerships with cultural organizations, the development of resident cultural councils, and the distribution of the Creative Transformations: Stories, Learnings, and Recommendations to Support Arts, Culture, and Public housing Communities report. In 2020 this project served 1,200 individuals. Revenue includes multi-year grants.
Convenings/Workshops/Presentations NOCD-NY organizes learning exchanges around topics of interest to community-based arts and culture and cosponsors a day-long cultural organizing learning exchange including workshops in performing arts, media, visual arts, and related community-based planning. In 2020 this project engaged 600 individuals.
Kensington Cultural Council supports programming, promotion, and capacity building for cultural groups in Kensington, Brooklyn, and animates the Avenue C Plaza, where we are a plaza partner. Programs include art-making workshops and concerts. In 2020 this program served 400 individuals.
