Organizations Filed Purposes: ORIGINAL MUSIC WORKSHOP, DBA NATIONAL SAWDUST, AN ARTIST-LED NON-PROFIT VENUE, IS A PLACE FOR EXPLORATION AND DISCOVERY, A PLACE WHERE EMERGING AND ESTABLISHED ARTISTS CAN SHARE THEIR MUSIC WITH SERIOUS MUSIC FANS AND CASUAL LISTENERS ALIKE.

TO DEVELOP A UNIQUE VENUE WHICH WILL PROVIDE COMPOSERS AND MUSICIANS ACROSS GENRES A HOME IN WHICH THEY CAN FLOURISH, A SETTING WHERE THEY ARE GIVEN SUPPORT AND CRITICAL RESOURCES ESSENTIAL TO CREATE, AND THEN SHARE, THEIR WORK.

The main accomplishment of FYE 8/31/19 was the production and presentation of 201 musical and multimedia events that were attended by 30,302 people. National Sawdust's 2018-2019 "SEASON FOUR" highlighted New Music--New Opera, New Jazz, New Pioneers in Contemporary Performances. These productions were the result of multiple programs being developed by National Sawdust --a Master Curator's Series, artist and group residencies, educational internships, and successful partnerships with other arts organizations. The performances were presented in the National Sawdust building, a state of the art music venue constructed within the renovated shell of a 100 year old sawdust factory in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

In addition to the established Artists-in-Residence program which has helped over 40 groups in developing their careers, National Sawdust formally began a Projects-in-Residence program to concentrate on creating one specific concept or piece currently in development. Part of the goal of this new project is to present the new piece outside the National Sawdust venue, traveling locally and globally. The related expenses are included in the first program statement.

Also in 2018-2019, National Sawdust initiated the Hildegard Composer Competition, mentoring three outstanding trans, female, and nonbinary composers in the early stages of their careers, supporting them with a commission and with access to a network of leading working collaborators. The related expenses are included with the first program statement.
