Organizations Filed Purposes: Primary Information was founded in 2006 to publish affordable artists' books and artists' writings. The Organization's mission is two-fold: (1)to publish out of print books that remain vital to ongoing conversations around artistic practice and (2)to publish contemporary books by emerging, mid-career, and established artists.Primary Information believes that books can function as exhibition spaces, making the work of artists distributable to a global audience. As a central tenant of its mission, the Organization prices all books at cost so that they are accessible to the largest possible audience.

In FY20, Primary Information advanced its mission through the publication of 7 new titles: A facsimile edition of The New Womans Survival Catalog, edited by Kirsten Grimstad and Susan Rennie. Published in September 2019 in an edition of 4,000. A collection of the complete run of Art-Rite magazine, edited by Edit DeAk and Walter Robinson. Published in October 2019 in an edition of 2,000. Writings, a new collection of out-of-print and unpublished writings by artist Tony Conrad. Published in November 2019 in an edition of 2,000. A facsimile edition of Yvonne Rainers Work 1961-73. Published in February 2020 in an edition of 3,000. A facsimile edition of Cornelius Cardews Stockhausen Serves Imperialism. Published in March 2020 in an edition of 2,500. A facsimile edition of David Wojnarowiczs In the Shadow of Forward Motion. Published in April 2020 in an edition of 2,500. The Context, a new artist book by Alexandro Segade. Published in May 2020 in an edition of 1,000. By taking a distributable form, each publication facilitated new exposure for artists amongst a broad public, including those that might not otherwise have been able to experience the artists works. The publications provided Primary Informations audience of artists, students, and members of the general public interested in contemporary art with an accessible opportunity to experience new and historical artists books.
