UMA is a coalition working towards sustaining and growing manufacturing in cities. UMA brings participants together to develop best practices around economic development.
Design JamIn February 2019, UMA launched our first-ever Design Jam event in Cincinnati, in partnership with DesignHouse and CoMade. In the event, we explored how design can benefit local manufacturing. We engaged four local manufacturers in hands-on design thinking exercises with 50 local participants in the Cincinnati area. We also convened over a dozen practitioners the following day to explore how we build stronger bridges between the design and manufacturing ecosystems, and how to create a network of service providers to support them. We released a subsequent report with findings from the Design Jam itself and the practitioner event, as well a video to illustrate the power of these Jams for bringing communities together.
