Organizations Filed Purposes:
To organize faith-based and other community institutions by building relationships that break down barriers and generate the necessary resources to transform people, congregations, and communities for the common good.
We trained 279 leaders, more than ever before in our organization's history. These leaders participated in 9 community events, 10 meetings with elected officials and influential community members. We also sent 16 community members to a three-day Faith in Action Regional Leadership Training where they were trained in 1:1 relationship building, creating a power analysis and other community organizing strategies.
Voice Buffalo's Voter Involved in Building Equity initiative employed 5 youth who received training on 1:1 relationship building, education on voting procedures, and community organizing skills. This team created voting brochures to be given to community members and translated said material into 6 different languages. They reached out about the importance of voting by calling 455 people, knocked on 901 doors in the community and obtained 135 commitments to vote.
Voice Buffalo held two main community education speaker events. Voice brought influential podcast hosts KevOnStage and Doboy, stage name Righteous and Ratchet, to discuss current events, spirituality and life in general. Voice also hosted Yusef Salaam, a member of the Exonerated Five (formerly Central Park Five), to educate the community about the impact of mass incarceration and criminal justice reform through the sharing of his own experience. Both events also served as fundraisers for VOICE Buffalo Programs.
