Youth Court is a voluntary sentencing alternative to the criminal justice system for young people who have committed a crime or offense. Youth court seeks to intervene in early anti- social, delinquent and criminal behavior by holding youth accountable for their actions and focusing the offender on constructive, socially acceptable behaviors. Youth Court program is available to first time offenders only.
Youth Court is a voluntary sentencing alternative for youthful first time offenders. Youth who have admitted guilt to a crime or offense appear before a jury of their peers, 8th-12th grade students, who review the evidence, deliberate and pass sentence. When the sentence is completed the youths record is expunged and the offender must sit as a juror on at least one case.
