Organizations Filed Purposes:
The mission of the Nannen Arboretum is to provide home garden and natural resource education and an opportunity for nature appreciation and leisure. It may serve as a meeting place for individuals, groups, and organizations for social or educational events.
1st quarter 2020 Educational Program Jeff Fabian, Certified Arborist, presented "The Science of Pruning". Jeff began his discussion defining pruning as a wounding action to a tree explaining how a tree reacts to wounding compartmentalizing the wound. He continued explaining the proper techniques and tools for successful pruning. There were 12 participants at the presentation.
2nd quarter Educational Program Adele Wellman, senior naturalist at Allegany State Park, explained which plants within the Nannen Arboretum are edible. She then took everyone on a foraging walk around the grounds allowing individuals to pick and sample various edible plants. She also shared several publications on foraging and edible plants with the attendees,
3red quarter Educational Program was not held due to covid 19 restrictions on in person meetings.
