TO ACT AS A SPONSOR OF DAY CARE HOMES FOR ADMINISTRATION OF THE NYS CHILD AND ADULT CARE FOOD PROGRAM. IN 2018-2019 THE CHILD CARE COUNCIL OF NASSAU ADMINISTERED AN AVERAGE OF 313 CLAIMS FOR ENROLLED DAY CARE HOMES EACH MONTH WHO PROVIDED MEALS TO APPROXIMATELY 4,000 CHILDREN THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY. ALL PARTICIPATING PROVIDERS RECEIVED THREE UNANNOUNCED VISITS ANNUALLY.
NYS DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH EAT WELL PLAY HARD CONTRACTS FOR CENTERS WAS DEVELOPED TOHELP PREVENT CHILDHOOD OBESITY AND REDUCE LONG-TERM RISKS FOR CHRONIC DISEASE THROUGH THE PROMOTION OF TARGETED DIETARY PRACTICES AND INCREASED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. THE NEW YORK STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH EXPANDED THE EAT WELL PLAY HARD SETTINGS (CENTER-BASED) CONTRACT TO INCLUDE THE FARM TO PRESCHOOL INITIATIVE IN FISCAL YEARBEGINNING IN FISCAL 2014-15 AND CONTINUING TODAY. ITS MISSION IS TO INCREASE ACCESS TO LOCALLY GROWN FRUITS AND VEGETABLES FOR UNDER SERVED AREAS OF LONG ISLAND BY OFFERING FARMERS MARKETS, RECIPES, COOKING DEMONSTRATIONS, GARDENING PROGRAMS AND TRAINING.
