REPRESENT, MOBILIZE, AND ENGAGE YOUNG FARMERS TO ENSURE THEIR SUCCESS
GRASSROOTS - Our coalition grows and engages our grassroots base by supporting farmer leadership, creating opportunities for farmers to educate their lawmakers, and strengthen local networks through a nationwide network of chapters. In 2019, our grassroots network base reached nearly 200,000 followers with 1,700 dues paying members. Our chapter network grew to 44 chapters in 28 states. We successfully piloted a fiscal sponsorship model for our chapters and now have 10 fiscally sponsored chapters, allowing these chapters to seek opportunities for funding and increase their capacity for organizing young farmers in their regions.
POLICY, WEST, AND LAND - We work directly with policymakers and motivate our grassroots base to make their voices heard through federal and state advocacy. 2019 saw our largest ever number of farmers, over 300 young farmer leaders, trained and practiced in leadership and advocacy throughout Annual National Leadership Convergence, in-district events, and other advocacy opportunities. In 2019 we advocated for vital Farm Bill programs through the appropriations process, ensuring these programs receive the funding needed. We also advanced policy proposals in Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Colorado, California, and New York for key issues such as workforce development, healthy soils, and beginning farmer tax credits.
BUSINESS SERVICES - Our organization offers policy-related business services, online tools, and resources to help young farmers navigate critical challenges such as food safety regulations, FSA loan programs, and land access. In 2019 we trained over 684 participants in more than 11 states and in collaboration with over 25 partner organizations. Our Finding Farmland calculator has provided over 7,700 individual users a tool to explore financing options for farmland purchases.
