Continued the expansion in Brooklyn, South Queens, and the Bronx with regular monthly membership meetings led by local base organizers and member leaders. Conducted public workshops in Brooklyn where Gender Justice Program members screened audio recordings sharing their experiences with gender-based oppression and violence engaging hundreds of community members. Engaged over 500 community members across NYC to fight a proposed borough-based jail expansion and for the need to invest in our communities and not jails. Graduated 40 youth members from our 19th Annual YouthPower! Summer Youth Organizing Institute and the Gender Justice Cohort with over 250 youth engaged in programs. The Gender Justice Program members organized a Natok street theater play about gender-based violence engaging over 100 community members on various issues of Gender Justice. It has been performed multiple times at various organizational events to educate our broader membership andcommunity. Conducted mass outreach and Know Your Rights trainings across NYC to build community defense and education for 1000s of community members during the immigration raids announced across the US by the Federal Government. DRUM led work locally that built grassroots pressure needed to defeat the citizenship question in the 2020 census and was officially blocked from the 2020 Census after the US Supreme Court ruling. Provided services to over 1200 immigrants related to immigration, housing, health access, education, domestic violence, and other issues. Won the overhaul of punitive NYC Public School discipline policies and the implementation of citywide restorative justice, funding for 85 new social workers, a capping of suspensions to 20 days, and ending arrests and summonses for low-level infractions in NYC public Schools. Won the Greenlight Campaign which extended drivers licenses to all New Yorkers including undocumented immigrants. Won a Class Action Lawsuit resulting in the city having to compensate up to 300 street vendors a total of $188,000 for confiscating and destroying their food carts. Won the fight to prevent Amazon HQ2 from being built in Western Queens which would have displaced thousands of community members. Mobilized over 2000 immigrants for Town Halls, community forums,and education events on civil rights, immigration reform, and education.
