Organizations Filed Purposes: ADK IS THE ONLY NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION IN NEW YORK STATE DEDICATED TO THE CONSERVATION, PRESERVATION AND RESPONSIBLE RECREATIONAL USE OF THE NEW YORK STATE FOREST PRESERVE AND OTHER PARKS, WILD LANDS, AND WATERS VITAL TO OUR MEMBERS AND CHAPTERS.

PROTECT WILD LANDS AND WATERS OF NY THROUGH CONSERVATION, PRESERVATION AND RESPONSIBLE RECREATION.

TRAILSADK'S THREE TRAILS PROGRAMS: SUPERVISED VOLUNTEERS, BACKCOUNTRY STEWARDSHIP, AND THE PROFESSIONAL TRAILS PROGRAM ADVOCATE FOR THE STEWARDSHIP, PROTECTION, AND RESPONSIBLE USE OF NEW YORK STATE'S WILD LANDS AND WATERWAYS. THE SUPERVISED VOLUNTEER TRAILS PROGRAM WORKS CLOSELY WITH THE DEC SINCE 1986 TO MAINTAIN HIKING TRAILS AND BACKCOUNTRY FACILITIES THROUGHOUT THE ADIRONDACK AND CATSKILL PARKS. THIS YEAR 392 VOLUNTEERS PARTICIPATED IN ONE-, TWO-, FOUR-, AND FIVE-DAY PROJECTS. BACKCOUNTRY STEWARDSHIP PROGRAMS SUCH AS THE LEAN-TO ADOPTER PROGRAM ALLOW A GROUP OF ALMOST 200 VOLUNTEERS TO MAINTAIN "THEIR" LEAN-TO IN THE ADIRONDACKS, INCLUDING THE GENERAL CLEANLINESS, MAINTAINING A GUEST LOG BOOK, AND SUBMITTING YEARLY REPORTS TO THE DEC. THE ADK PROFESSIONAL TRAILS PROGRAM (PRO CREW) FOCUSES ON RESOURCE PROTECTION THROUGH QUALITY TRAIL WORK, LAYOUT, AND DESIGN. THE CREW HAS GROWN FROM ONE PERSON IN 1978 TO SIXTEEN IN 2019. THE PRO CREW MAINTAINS, BUILDS, AND RECONSTRUCTS TRAILS THROUGHOUT NEW YORK STATE WITH A FOCUS ON THE ADIRONDACK AND CATSKILL FOREST PRESERVES.ADK HAS THREE COMPLIMENTARY TRAILS PROGRAMS: SUPERVISED VOLUNTEERS, BACKCOUNTRY STEWARDSHIP, AND THE PROFESSIONAL TRAILS PROGRAM. VOLUNTEERS MAINTAINED 185 LEAN-TOS, CLEARED DRAINAGE AND REMOVED BLOWDOWN FROM 121 MILES OF TRAILS. OUR PRO CREWS BUILT 465 FEET OF BOG BRIDGES, 260 FEET OF STREAM SPAN BRIDGES, CREATED 646 CUBIC FEET OF RETAINING WALL, AND INSTALLED 323 ROCK STEPS. THESE PROGRAMS ADVOCATE FOR THE STEWARDSHIP, PROTECTION, AND RESPONSIBLE USE OF NEW YORK STATE'S WILD LANDS AND WATERWAYS. THE SUPERVISED VOLUNTEER TRAILS PROGRAM HAS WORKED CLOSELY WITH THE DEC SINCE 1986 TO HELP MAINTAIN HIKING TRAILS AND BACKCOUNTRY FACILITIES THROUGHOUT THE ADIRONDACK AND CATSKILL PARKS. OTHER OPPORTUNITIES INCLUDE SKILL WORKSHOPS SUCH AS BASIC TRAIL MAINTENANCE, SPECIAL EVENTS LIKE NATIONAL TRAILS DAY AND FALL TRAILS DAY, HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS, AND JOHNS BROOK VALLEY TRAIL WORK WEEKEND. BACKCOUNTRY STEWARDSHIP PROGRAMS SUCH AS THE LEAN-TO ADOPTER PROGRAM ALLOW A GROUP OF ALMOST 200 VOLUNTEERS TO MAINTAIN "THEIR" LEAN-TO IN THE ADIRONDACKS, INCLUDING THE GENERAL CLEANLINESS OF THE STRUCTURE AND ADJACENT PIT PRIVY, MAINTAINING A GUEST LOG BOOK, AND SUBMITTING YEARLY REPORTS TO THE DEC. THE ADK PROFESSIONAL TRAILS PROGRAM (PRO CREW) IS BASED ON RESOURCE PROTECTION THROUGH QUALITY TRAIL WORK, TRAIL LAYOUT, AND DESIGN. SINCE 1978, THE CREW HAS GROWN FROM ONE PERSON TO SIXTEEN. NOW WITH A MUCH BROADER SCOPE, THE PRO CREW MAINTAINS, BUILDS, AND RECONSTRUCTS TRAILS THROUGHOUT NEW YORK STATE WITH A FOCUS ON THE ADIRONDACK AND CATSKILL FOREST PRESERVES.

RECREATIONSTAY, PLAY, PROTECT, AND EXPLORE THE OUTDOORS. ADK PROVIDES UNIQUE LODGING FACILITIES TO HELP VISITORS LAUNCH THEIR ADVENTURES. ADK OFFERED OVER 2,000 OUTINGS AND ACTIVITIES LAST YEAR THROUGHOUT NEW YORK, THE US AND THE WORLD. OUTINGS INCLUDE HIKING, PADDLING, CYCLING, SKIING, SNOWSHOEING, ADVENTURE TRAVEL, EARN-A-PATCH CHALLENGES, AND MUCH MORE. ACTIVITIES INCLUDE WORKSHOPS, CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS, VOLUNTEERING AND TAKING ACTION ON ADVOCACY ISSUES. ADK LODGES ARE LOCATED IN THE ADIRONDACK HIGH PEAKS. WE WOWED OVER 11,000 PEOPLE WHO SPENT TIME WITH AN ADK NATURALIST INTERN AND 117,000 TEENS, COLLEGE STUDENTS, ROAD SCHOLARS AND OTHER VISITORS TO ADK'S PROPERTIES. OUR AWARD-WINNING SUMMIT STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM EDUCATED OVER 32,000 HIKERS IN 2019 AND HELPED PROTECTED NEW YORK'S RAREST PLANTS ATOP THE HIGH SUMMITS. WE SPREAD THE LEAVE NO TRACE MESSAGE OF OUTDOOR SKILLS AND ETHICS TO HELP KEEP PEOPLE FROM LOVING THE STATE'S PRECIOUS NATURAL SPACES TO DEATH.
