PTA NEW YORK CONGRESS MURRAY AVENUE SCHOOL 18-164'S PURPOSE IS THE SAME AS THAT OF THE NATIONAL PTA AND THE NEW YORK STATE PTA WHICH IS TO PROMOTE THE WELFARE OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH IN HOME, SCHOOL, AND COMMUNITY. TO RAISE THE STANDARDS OF HOME LIFE, TO SECURE ADEQUATE LAWS FOR THE CARE AND PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH, TO BRING INTO CLOSER RELATION THE HOME AND THE SCHOOL, THAT PARENTS AND TEACHERS MAY COOPERATE INTELLIGENTLY IN THE EDUCATION OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH AND TO DEVELOP BETWEEN EDUCATORS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC SUCH UNITED EFFORTS AS WILL SECURE FOR ALL CHILDREN AND YOUTH THE HIGHEST ADVANTAGES IN PHYSICAL, MENTAL, SOCIAL, AND SPIRITUAL EDUCATION.
STUDENT PROGRAMS: THE CORE OF OUR STUDENT PROGRAMS INCLUDES A CULTURAL ARTS PROGRAM THAT REACHES EVERY CLASSROOM IN OUR SCHOOL. MURRAY AVENUE CURRENTLY HAS OVER 700 STUDENTS AND OVER 500 FAMILIES AND EACH CLASS RECEIVES A CULTURAL ARTS ENRICHMENT PROGRAM THAT REINFORCES THE CURRICULUM OF THE GRADE. WE CONTRACT WITH LOCAL PERFORMERS TO COME TO THE SCHOOL AND CREATE PUPPET SHOWS, FOLK ARTS, AFRICAN STUDIES, ETC. THAT BRING THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE IN THE CLASSROOM THROUGH THE USE OF VARIED MEDIUMS. ADDITIONALLY, WE HAVE AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS COVERING A NUMBER OF TOPICS SUCH AS COOKING AND BAKING, LANGUAGE PROGRAMS, CHESS, SCIENCE CLUBS, ETC. ALL OF OUR STUDENT PROGRAMS ARE MADE AVAILABLE TO ALL STUDENTS ATTENDING THE SCHOOL.
PROVIDE GIFTS TO THE SCHOOL - THE PTA MAKES FUND AVAILABLE FOR TEACHERS TO USE TO SUPPORT OR SUPPLEMENT CLASS ACTIVITIES ON AN ANNUAL BASIS. THESE GRANTS ARE INTENDED TO ALLOW TEACHERS TO UNDETAKE NEW PROJRACT THAT THEY WOULD OTHERWISE BE UNABLE TO PURSUE OR TO PURSUE PROJECTS TO A GREATER EXTENT THAN THEY OTHERWISE WOULD.
PARENT SERVICES; WE PROVIDE ORGANIZED FORUMS FOR TEACHERS AND PARENTS TO JOIN TOGETHER AND DISCUSS TOPICS THAT AFFECT THE WELFARE OF THE CHILDREN AND OUR COMMUNITY. WE CREATE OPEN FORUMS, SUCH AS COFFEES, FALL SOCIALS, AND EVENING MEETINGS, TO ENCOURAGE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN TEACHERS, ADMINISTRATION AND OUR PARENTS. WE PROVIDE A DIRECTORY OF STAFF AND FAMILIES, HOST A TEACHER APPRECIATION LUNCHEON, AND RUN AN ORAL HISTORY DAY AND NUMEROUS MEETINGS WITH THE ADMINISTRATION AND PARENTS ALL IN SUPPORT OF THE PTA MEMBERSHIP.
