THE MUSEUM'S MISSION IS TO ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN A MUSEUM OF WORKS PRIMARILY OF ISAMU NOGUCHI; TO COLLECT, OWN, HOLD, MAINTAIN, PRESERVE, AND MAKE AVAILABLE APPROPRIATE OBJECTS AND ARTIFACTS; TO ARRANGE, CREATE, MAINTAIN AND PROMOTE APPROPRIATE EXHIBITS; TO ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN A RESEARCH LIBRARY AND ARCHIVES; TO PROMOTE AND SUPPORT EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, RESEARCH AND SCHOLARSHIP, ISSUE PUBLICATIONS IN ALL FORMATS, AND ORGANIZE CULTURAL ACTIVITIES, PROGRAMS AND EVENTS TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE WORK OF ISAMU NOGUCHI AND OF OTHER ARTISTS REPRESENTED IN THE COLLECTION.
THE MISSION OF THE ISAMU NOGUCHI FOUNDATION AND GARDEN MUSEUM IS TO ADVANCE THE UNDERSTANDING AND APPRECIATION OF ISAMU NOGUCHI'S ART AND LEGACY.
EXHIBITIONS AND PUBLICATIONSIN ADDITION TO THE PERMANENT COLLECTION INSTALLED GALLERIES AND GARDEN AT THE NOGUCHI MUSEUM, EACH YEAR CHANGING EXHIBITIONS ARE PRESENTED THAT OFFER NEW PERSPECTIVES ON NOGUCHI'S ARTISTIC PRODUCTION. IN 2019, CHANGING EXHIBITIONS INCLUDED; "CHANGING AND UNCHANGING THINGS" FEATURING WORK BY SABURO HASEGAWA AND ISAMU NOGUCHI; "BRENDAN FERNANDES: CONTRACT AND RELEASE," AN INSTALLATION OF SIX NEW DANCE SET PIECES AND CHOREOGRAPHED DANCE PERFORMANCES WITHIN AN EXHIBITION OF NOGUCHI'S WORK; AND "GABRIEL OROZCO: ROTATING OBJECTS," AN INSTALLATION OF TWO BODIES OF WORK BY THE CONTEMPORARY ARTIST.
MERCHANDISINGTHE MUSEUM SELLS FUNCTIONAL EXAMPLES OF FURNITURE MADE USING DESIGNS OFISAMU NOGUCHI, AS WELL AS OTHER MERCHANDISE THAT IS DIRECTLY RELATED TOTHE EXHIBITIONS AND INTERPRETIVE MATERIALS IN THE GALLERIES TO ALLOWMUSEUM VISITORS TO EXTEND THEIR AESTHETIC AND EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCEOVER TIME.
COLLECTIONTHE NOGUCHI MUSEUM MANAGES THE WORLD'S LARGEST AND MOST EXTENSIVECOLLECTION OF NOGUCHI'S ART AND IS DEDICATED TO THE PRESERVATION OFTHIS BODY OF WORK. THERE ARE 475 OBJECTS IN THE MUSEUM'S PERMANENTCOLLECTION WHICH INCLUDE STONE, SCULPTURES, CERAMICS, DANCE SETS,DRAWINGS, FURNITURE, SCULPTURAL MODELS, PORTRAIT HEADS, AND MODELS FORPUBLIC WORKS. WHILE DESIGNING AND CURATING HIS MUSEUM, NOGUCHISELECTED SEVERAL OF THESE WORKS TO BE ON PERMANENT DISPLAY IN THEMUSEUM'S GALLERIES. IN ADDITION TO SHOWCASING ITS PERMANENT COLLECTIONFOR THE PUBLIC, THE NOGUCHI MUSEUM ALSO SERVED THE INTERNATIONALCOMMUNITY BY LOANING WORKS TO OTHER INSTITUTIONS.
