CHILDREN BEGIN RECEIVING SERVICES AS SOON AS DEAFNESS IS DIAGNOSED, OFTEN BEFORE AGE ONE. BY THREE YEARS OLD, CHILDREN ATTEND THE PROGRAM FULL-TIME. BENEFITTING BY A TOTAL COMMUNICATION PHILOSOPHY, CHILDREN ARE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE USING SPEECH, SIGN LANGUAGE, AND OTHER COMMUNICATION FORMS. THE SCHOOL OFFERS A FULL RANGE OF OPPORTUNITIES, INCLUDING AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS, SPORTS TEAMS, ETC. THE SCHOOL IS LICENSED TO AWARD A NYS HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA.
IDEA 611 AND 619 GRANTS - DISTRICT(S) OF RESIDENCE FORWARD FEDERAL GRANT FUNDS TO MILL NECK MANOR WHICH ENABLES ITS PROGRAM TO MEET THE UNIQUE, SPECIALIZED NEEDS OF THE DEAF AND COMMUNICATION-IMPAIRED STUDENTS BY PROVIDING A SPECIALLY TRAINED READING TEACHER TO ENHANCE LITERACY.
CAMPUS-WIDE - MILL NECK MANOR OWNS SEVERAL BUILDINGS ON THE 86-ACRE LOT. THESE BUILDINGS ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SCHOOL, WHETHER OR NOT THEY ARE OCCUPIED. UPKEEP AND MAINTENANCE OF THESE BUILDINGS IS REQUIRED AND HAVE THEIR OWN COSTS, OUTSIDE OF THE REGULAR SCHOOL PROGRAMS.
