MILL NECK SERVICES' PRIMARY MISSION IS TO PROVIDE EMPLOYMENT, HABILITATION AND INTERPRETING SERVICES TO PEOPLE WITH ALL DEGREES OF HEARING LOSS. MANY OF OUR CLIENTS, BESIDES DEAFNESS HAVE INTELLECTUAL/DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES. DURING THE PAST YEAR, MILL NECK HAS EXPANDED THE SPECTRUM OF SERVICES PROVIDED TO INCLUDE HEARING CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES. MILL NECK PROVIDES SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETERS IN MEDICAL, EDUCATIONAL, LEGAL, POLITICAL, SPIRITUAL AND EMERGENCY SITUATIONS TO FACILITATE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN DEAF-HEARING COMMUNITIES; AND PROVIDES INDIVIDUALIZED EMPLOYMENT AND HABILITATION SUPPORT TO PEOPLE.
TO SUPPORT AND ADVOCATE FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE DEAF, HARD OF HEARING, LATE DEAFENED AND/OR DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED TO FOSTER OPPORTUNITIES FOR EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSION, HABILITATION AND SOCIAL CHANGE.
SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETING PROGRAM - PROFESSIONAL INTERPRETING SERVICE OFFERING A FULL ARRAY OF TRANSLATION SERVICES-ON-SITE INTERPRETING, TACTILE INTERPRETING AS WELL AS CERTIFIED DEAF INTERPRETATION. THESE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED TO DIVERSE GROUPS OF PEOPLE WHO ARE DEAF, HARD OF HEARING, LATE DEAFENED, DEAF-BLIND AND HEARING. INTERPRETERS ARE SCHEDULED BASED ON AVAILABILITY AND MATCHED TO ASSIGNMENT BASED ON INFORMATION OBTAINED BY OFFICE STAFF. MILL NECK SPECIALIZES IN PROVIDING SERVICES FOR GOVERMENTAL, EDUCATION, MEDICAL SITUATIONS, LEGAL MATTERS, MENTAL HEALTH AND MORE. MILL NECK PROVIDES INTERPRETATION FOR NATIONAL AND REGIONAL EVENTS.
DAY HABILITATION - PROVIDES A SAFE, RESPECTFUL AND STIMULATING ENVIRONMENT WHERE PARTICIPANTS CAN LEARN SKILLS THEY CAN USE TO BECOME ACTIVE MEMBERS OF THEIR COMMUNITY. MILL NECK OPERATES CENTER BASED DAY HABILITATION WHERE PEOPLE BEGIN THEIR DAY AT THE CENTER AND ENGAGE IN VOLUNTEERISM, CLASS ACTIVITIES, AND OTHER EXPERIENCES ON AND OFF SITE WITH SUPPORT STAFF. GOALS ARE DERIVED FROM EACH PERSON'S INDIVIDUAL PROGRAM PLAN (ISP) AND LIFE PLAN CREATED BY CCO'S. MILL NECK ALSO OPERATES SEVERAL DAY HABILITATION WITHOUT WALLS PROGRAMS THAT STRESS ACTIVITIES MADE UP ENTIRELY OF COMMUNITY BASED EXPERIENCES. WITHOUT WALLS PROGRAM BEGINS AT A PERSON'S HOME WHERE STAFF MEET THEM AND CONTINUE ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN COMMUNITY IN LINE WITH ACTIVITIES DERIVED FROM ISP AND HABILITATION PLAN.
EMPLOYMENT - DEAF INDIVIDUALS ARE OFTEN BARRED FROM OBTAINING COMPETITIVE EMPLOYMENT. MILL NECK PROVIDES JOB DEVELOPMENT SERVICES FOR DEAF CLIENTELE ASSISTING WITH RESUME PREPARATION, CAREER EXPLORATION, JOB SEARCH AND INTERVIEW SKILLS. MILL NECK PROVIDES EMPLOYMENT CONSULTANTS TO ASSIST DURING INTERVIEW PROCESS. UPON HIRE, MILL NECK'S STAFF ASSISTS NEW EMPLOYEES TO BECOME INTEGRATED INTO A NEW COMPANY, ASSISTING THEM TO LEARN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES, AND CORPORATE CULTURE. THIS PROGRAM IS VERY TIME LIMITED-USUALLY EXTENDS FOR FIRST MONTH OF EMPLOYMENT, ALTHOUGH MILL NECK REMAINS ONLY A PHONE CALL AWAY TO EMPLOYERS AND DEAF EMPLOYEES.
