A NUMBER OF THE PIECES ON VIEW WILL RELATE TO MULTIPLE SECTIONS, INVITING AUDIENCES TO RECOGNIZE ECHOES AND DIALOGUES BETWEEN THE PIECES ON DISPLAY. THE FACILITIES UPDATES INCLUDE, RECONFIGURING WHAT IS KNOWN AS ROOM 110, A MULTIPURPOSE SPACE THAT CONTAINS 3,034 SQUARE FEET FOR FUTURE USE IN FALL 2020.

PARTICIPANTS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO CONSIDER THE EXPERIENCES OF COMMUNITIES FROM PUERTO RICO, LATIN AMERICA, THE CARIBBEAN AND THE UNITED STATES THROUGH IN-DEPTH LEARNING ABOUT THESE REGIONS' DIVERSE HISTORIES, CULTURES, AND OUR RELATIONSHIPS TO THEM. A GUIDED VISIT PROGRAM INCLUDES A 60-MINUTE GUIDED TOUR OF EL MUSEO'S EXHIBITIONS LED BY A MUSEUM EDUCATOR WITH AN OPTION OF EXPANDING THE PROGRAM TO INCLUDE A HANDS-ON ART-MAKING WORKSHOP. STORYTELLING PROGRAMS ARE ALSO A PART OF EL MUSEO'S CURRENT GUIDED VISITS OFFERING. CREATED FOR KINDERGARTEN -3RD GRADE LEARNERS, STORYTELLING WORKSHOPS PROVIDE A CREATIVE AND BI-LINGUAL 90-MINUTE EXPERIENCE, INTRODUCING YOUNGER LEARNERS TO THE IDEAS OF CULTURE AND ART. COMMUNITY PROGRAMS OFFER EAST HARLEM RESIDENTS OPPORTUNITIES TO FURTHER ENGAGE WITH STAFF AND PROGRAMS AT THE MUSEUM. WORKING DIRECTLY WITH PARENTS BELONGING TO THE SCHOOL DISTRICT THAT EL MUSEO BELONGS TO, DISTRICT 4, EL MUSEO STAFF DELIVERS MATERIALS THAT AID PARENTS IN EXPLORING THE MUSEUM AND OTHER MUSEUMS IN THE CITY. EVERY YEAR, WORKSHOPS ARE HELD ONCE A MONTH FOR A SPAN OF SIX MONTHS, WHERE A PROJECT IS DEVELOPED AND THEN LAUNCHED. THESE PROGRAMS CREATE A TIGHT-KNIT GROUP OF ACTIVE FAMILIES THAT BECOME VERY INVOLVED IN PROGRAMMING AT THE MUSEUM. DURING THE SPRING OF FY 19, IN COLLABORATION WITH PARENTS AND EDUCATORS FROM DISTRICT 4, AN 'ART CART' WAS DESIGNED BY MICHAEL YARINSKY, AS A VEHICLE TO HOLD GALLERY AND ART MAKING TOOLS. THE CART WAS UNVEILED IN JULY.TEEN PROGRAMS PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH OF THE FIVE BOROUGHS TO ENGAGE WITH THE MUSEUM'S MISSION THROUGH VARIOUS PROJECTS. MEETING ONCE A WEEK FOR TWO SEMESTERS, TEENS DEVELOP VARIOUS ART-RELATED SKILLS THAT ALLOW THEM TO FURTHER UNDERSTAND THEIR ROLE AS YOUTH OF EAST HARLEM AND NEW YORK CITY. EL MUSEO STAFF AND TEACHING ARTISTS WORK TO DEVELOP A CURRICULUM THAT FITS THE NEEDS OF EACH PROJECT EVERY YEAR WHICH CAN RANGE FROM PHOTOGRAPHY, ART MAKING OR PODCASTS. IN THE FALL SEMESTER, NINE TEENS WORKED WITH ARTIST MANUEL ACEVEDO TO CREATE A PHOTOGRAPHY PORTFOLIO, AND LATER DEVELOPED AN EXHIBITION TITLED INSIGHT, EXHIBITED IN OUR COMMUNITY GALLERY SPACE, THE CUENTAME GALLERY. IN THE WINTER/SPRING OF 2019, 13 TEENS WORKED WITH EL MUSEO'S EDUCATORS AND ARTIST EDUCATORS TO CREATE A PODCAST PROJECT, RESPONDING TO IDENTIFIED NEEDS IN THEIR COMMUNITY. IN THE SPRING OF 2019, EL MUSEO PARTICIPATED IN THE MET'S CITY WIDE PROGRAM, TEENS TAKE THE MET, WITH OVER 700 TAKING PART IN EL MUSEO'S WORKSHOP. EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM COQUI CLUB, DEVELOPED IN 2016, PROVIDES FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN AGES 16 MONTHS TO 4 YEARS, A SPACE TO LEARN, PLAY, EXPLORE, AND GROW IN A BILINGUAL ART MUSEUM SETTING. ATTENDANCE FOR THE PROGRAM GREW IN FY 19, AND IT IS NOW OFFERED AS TWO SESSIONS OFFERED ON A WEEKDAY, AND TWO SESSIONS ON A SATURDAY MORNING. SIGNIFICANT ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN FISCAL YEAR:-EL MUSEO OFFERED 961 GUIDED VISITS DURING THE 2019 FISCAL YEAR, SERVING 9,495 VISITORS. -COQUI CLUB EXPANDED TO INCLUDE TWO WEEKEND SESSIONS. -FOR FY 19, THERE WERE A TOTAL OF 775 PARTICIPANTS FOR COQUI PROGRAMS. -FOR FY 19, THERE WERE A TOTAL OF 764 PARTICIPANTS FOR TEEN PROGRAMS, INCLUDING THE TEENS TAKE THE MET PROGRAM. -FOR FY 19, THERE WERE A TOTAL OF 385 PARTICIPANTS AND 85 VOLUNTEERS FOR ACCESS PROGRAMS.
