THE ORGANIZATION WAS FORMED IN 2004. THE ORGANIZATION FOCUSES ITS EFFORTS ON THREE MAIN PROGRAMS:BRIDGE TO ENTER ADVANCED MATHEMATICS ("BEAM", FORMERLY SUMMER PROGRAM IN MATHEMATICAL PROBLEM SOLVING), A SUMMER PROGRAM FOR UNDERSERVED NEW YORK CITY & CALIFORNIA MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH TALENT IN MATHEMATICS; USA MATHEMATICAL TALENT SEARCH ("USAMTS"), A MATH CONTEST FOR US CITIZENS AND RESIDENTS THAT EMPHASIZES RESEARCH AND IN-DEPTH THINKING; AND EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE FUND ("EAF"), A DEDICATED FUND ESTABLISHED TO PROVIDE RELIEF TO THE ORGANIZATION'S STUDENTS & FAMILIES WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED ECONOMIC HARDSHIP AS A RESULT OF THE INTERNATIONAL PANDEMIC KNOWN AS COVID 19.
BRIDGE TO ENTER ADVANCED MATHEMATICS (BEAM) SUPPORTS STUDENTS IN GRADES 6-12 AND IN COLLEGE WITH SUMMER PROGRAMS, WEEKEND PROGRAMS DURING THE YEAR, AND ADVISING AND TUTORING. ALL PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS MUST TAKE A MATH ASSESSMENT AND COMPLETE AN APPLICATION IN EITHER 6TH OR 7TH GRADE.DURING 2019, 300 6TH GRADE STUDENTS ATTENDED A FIVE-WEEK DAY PROGRAM IN NEW YORK CITY AND LOS ANGELES, 120 7TH GRADE STUDENTS ATTENDED A THREE-WEEK RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM IN UPSTATE NEW YORK AND CLAREMONT, CALIFORNIA, AND 575 ALUMNI RECEIVED ACCESS TO ACADEMIC ADVISING AND SUPPORT. USA MATHEMATICAL TALENT SEARCH (USAMTS)- IS A NATIONAL MATH COMPETITION FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO PROMOTE ADVANCED MATHEMATICAL PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS AND EDUCATION. THE USAMTS ENCOURAGES STUDENTS TO LEARN ADVANCED MATHEMATICAL WRITING SKILLS. THE USAMTS COMPETITION IS OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. ON AVERAGE A TOTAL OF 600 TO 700 MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN THE USAMTS.
