Organizations Filed Purposes:
See Statement 4ACM chapters exist as a means of achieving those purposes as set forth in the Constitution, the computing and information processing community, and the public, at the local level. Through technical meetings and lectures, chapters promote the free interchange of information among their members and the larger community in which they serve. Through professional development seminars and tutorial training sessions, chapters develop and maintain the competence of computing and information processing personnel in their area. ACM chapters encourage membership and participation in the Association as well as at its international level. Chapters also serve as a training ground for members who wish to become involved in the volunteer management of the Association at a higher level.
To promote the advancement of computing and computer science. This is accomplished mainly by publishing technical journals, computing research material and papers and by holding meetings and conferences to provide a venue for the open exchange of information related to the field.
Chapters are the "local neighborhoods" of ACM. Our more than 860 Professional and Student chapters worldwide serve as nodes of activity for ACM members and the computing community at large, offering seminars, lectures, and the opportunity to meet peers, experts in many fields of interest and establish personal networking systems.Chapter participation provides a unique combination of social interaction and professional dialogue among peers, in their own geographic area. Chapter members' backgrounds represent all facets of computing, from academia, research, business and industry; it will invariably focus on the kind of information and insight that cannot easily be gathered in any other way.
