THE FOUNDATION'S BALLET COMPANY, AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE, DESIGNATED BY CONGRESSIONAL RESOLUTION IN 2006 AS AMERICA'S NATIONAL BALLET COMPANY, PRESENTS THE GREAT REPERTOIRE OF FULL-LENGTH BALLETS, ONE-ACT CLASSICS AND PIONEERING NEW WORKS TO AUDIENCES ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND AROUND THE WORLD.
SEASONS:IN 2019, ABT PRESENTED 10 WEEKS OF PERFORMANCES IN NEW YORK CITY AND 2 WEEKS OF PERFORMANCES IN COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA. THE EIGHT-WEEK SPRING METROPOLITAN OPERA HOUSE SEASON REPERTORY INCLUDED THE FULL-LENGTH BALLETS OF HARLEQUINADE, WHIPPED CREAM, JANE EYRE, MANON, SWAN LAKE, LE CORSAIRE, THE SLEEPING BEAUTY, AND RATMANSKY AND THARP TRIOS. ABT PRESENTED CONTEMPORARY ONE-ACT BALLETS FOR TWO WEEKS IN LATE OCTOBER AT THE DAVID H. KOCH THEATER AT LINCOLN CENTER. IN DECEMBER, ABT PRESENTED THE NUTCRACKER FOR TWO WEEKS AT THE SEGERSTROM CENTER FOR THE ARTS IN COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA.
TOURING: ABT'S TOURING BRINGS CLASSICAL BALLET TO AUDIENCES ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND AROUND THE WORLD. TOURING IN 2019 INCLUDED REGULAR RESIDENCIES AT THE JOHN F. KENNEDY CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS IN WASHINGTON, DC AND THE AUDITORIUM THEATRE OF ROOSEVELT UNIVERSITY IN CHICAGO. ADDITIONAL TOURING IN 2019 INCLUDED PERFORMANCES AT THE SEGERSTROM CENTER FOR THE ARTS IN COSTA MESA, THE HANCHER AUDITORIUM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA, NORTHROP'S CARLSON FAMILY STAGE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA, AND THE FILENE CENTER AT THE WOLF TRAP NATIONAL PARK FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS IN VIENNA, VIRGINIA.
EDUCATIONAL TRAINING AND OUTREACH: IN 2019, AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE'S DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND TRAINING SERVED OVER 16,500 INDIVIDUALS. ABT'S PRIMARY OUTREACH PROGRAM IS ABT AT SCHOOL: SERVING 25 NYC SCHOOLS ENGAGING OVER 2,800 STUDENTS. ABT'S STUDENT TRAINING PROGRAMS INCLUDE THE JACQUELINE KENNEDY ONASSIS SCHOOL (450 STUDENTS); SUMMER INTENSIVES IN 6 US CITIES (1,450 STUDENTS) AND ABT STUDIO COMPANY (12 STUDENTS AND 6 APPRENTICES), A PRE-PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM. ABT'S TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM (ABT NATIONAL TRAINING CURRICULUM) HAD 281 NEWLY CERTIFIED TEACHERS ENROLLED IN ITS 2019 COURSES. TO DATE, THE PROGRAM HAS CERTIFIED 1,862 TEACHERS IN 50 STATES AND 45 COUNTRIES.
