THE MISSION OF THE CENTER IS TO FOSTER AN INTEREST IN THE ARTS; TOENCOURAGE THE DEVELOPMENT OF PERFORMERS, CHOREOGRAPHERS, DIRECTORS,WRITERS, COMPOSERS AND DESIGNERS; AND TO ADVANCE THEIR COLLABORATION. IN 2005, THE CENTER OPENED THE BARYSHNIKOV ARTS CENTER AT 450 WEST 37THSTREET, IN NEW YORK CITY. THE CENTER SERVES AS A CREATIVE LABORATORY,MEETING PLACE AND PERFORMING SPACE FOR ARTISTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD.PROGRAMS INCLUDE THE PRESENTATION OF PERFORMANCE WORKS, ARTISTRESIDENCIES, A SUBSIDIZED RENTAL PROGRAM AND AN EDUCATION PROGRAM.
THE CENTER WAS ESTABLISHED TO FOSTER AN INTEREST IN THE ARTS, ENCOURAGE THE DEVELOPMENT OF ARTISTS AND ADVANCE THE ARTISTIC COLLABORATION.
BAC PRESENTS:THE ANNUAL PUBLIC PERFORMANCE SERIES, BAC PRESENTS, PROVIDES AN ARTISTICALLY, CULTURALLY, AND GEOGRAPHICALLY DIVERSE GROUP OF DANCE, THEATER, MUSIC, AND MULTIMEDIA ARTISTS WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO PERFORM NEW WORK AND REACH NEW AUDIENCES. BAC PRESENTS HAS GIVEN MANY EMERGING ARTISTS THEIR NEW YORK PREMIERES, AS WELL AS PRESENTING ESTABLISHED ARTISTS ALREADY RENOWNED IN THEIR DISCIPLINES. ALL EVENTS ARE OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC, WITH AN AVERAGE TICKET PRICE OF $25. IN 2019, BAC PRESENTED 15 WORKS WITH A TOTAL ATTENDANCE EXCEEDING 4,000.BAC RESIDENCIES:BAC RESIDENCIES PROVIDES ARTISTS WITH THE SPACE AND RESOURCES NEEDED TO FACILITATE THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW PROJECTS AND COLLABORATIONS. BAC RESIDENCIES PROVIDE ARTISTS WITH STUDIO SPACE FOR A THREE TO SIX WEEK PERIOD AND A STIPEND (ARTIST FEE). RESIDENT ARTISTS MAY PRESENT A WORK-IN-PROGRESS SHOWING, BUT ARE NOT REQUIRED TO DO SO. BAC PROVIDES TECHNICAL, ADMINISTRATIVE AND MARKETING SUPPORT, AS WELL AS INVITING ARTS PROFESSIONALS, JOURNALISTS, AND PEERS TO RESIDENCY SHOWINGS. BAC PROVIDES UP TO 20 RESIDENCIES ANNUALLY.BAC RENTALS:BAC PROVIDES AFFORDABLE REHEARSAL SPACE TO INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS AND COMPANIES THROUGH ITS SUBSIDIZED RENTAL PROGRAM. BAC'S SUBSIDIZED RATES START AT $10 PER HOUR. BAC ALSO PROVIDES REDUCED RATE RENTALS TO NON-PROFIT DANCE, MUSIC, THEATER AND MULTI-MEDIA ARTISTS AND COMPANIES. BAC ALSO OFFERS MARKET RATE RENTALS TO COMMERCIAL ARTS GROUPS, WHO REHEARSE AND PRESENT THEIR WORK IN OUR SPACES. IN 2019, OVER 180 INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS AND COMPANIES RENTED SPACE IN OUR STUDIOS AND THEATERS.
