Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE CORPORATION IS ORGANIZED FOR CHARITABLE AND EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES, MAINLY FOR CONDUCTING TRAINING ACTIVITIES AND TO PRODUCE PUBLICATIONS TO HELP ARTISTS AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS BE BOTH MORE CREATIVE AND EFFECTIVE.
ORGANIZATIONAL TRAININGS: The Beautiful troubles training program works with organizations and individuals who are invested in activitating the role of civil society actors to build stronger civil engagement in their communities through training on non-violent and strategic organizing. In 2018, 28 trainings were conducted that benefited approximately 1300 participants.the majority of trainings were carried out in the US, but training also took place in Kenya, Tanzania and Canada. There was one webinar and ongoing mentoring and creative consulting for certain groups were performed. Trainings are facilitated by both Beautiful Trouble core staff and independaet contractors who are hired to supplement the staff on certain trainings, due to their physical proximity to the organizations requesting the traings os specific expertise.
PRODUCTION OF CAMPAIGNER RESOURCES AND MATERIALS: Beautiful Troubles has developed a "toolkit" of educational materials and learning resources which are made available to the public for free or at low cost. These materialsaddress how to create lasting social impact and make change in communities facing violence and injustice through showcasing examples of best practices in community organizing, and the sharing of stories of actions from around the world. At present, our offerings consist of both books and electronics resources accessible online. Some of the content is available for free on these sites in English, Spanish, Portguese and Arabic. Additionally we offer a free study guide in English for use in the classroom We also offer powerpoint presentations, videos and webinars on a youtube channel and podcasts. In 2018 we focused on continuing to translate content of the online toolkit, as well as funding an editor to collect new resources from the African continent. We also began work to turn to the toolbox into a card deck and strategy game that students, community leaders and training participants can use to plan and evaluate their social justice impact.
PLANNING RETREAT & WEBSITE MERGER AND DESIGN: Currently our electronic resources for campaigners are located on two separate websites, Beautiful Trouble (beautifultrouble.org) and Beautiful Rising (beautiful rising.org) In May 2018 we held a 5-day staff retreat to design a new composite website to combine all our resource on one site. We launched a composite website that will house all the content of Beautiful Trouble and subsequent Beautiful Rising project as well as offering downloads and other material including our card deck / stategy games.
