IMMIGRATION LEGAL SERVICES PROGRAM: THIS PROGRAM SERVES THE MOST VULNERABLE IMMIGRANTS WHO MIGHT OTHERWISE BE TARGETED BY LEGAL PREDATORS, AND HELPS STRENGTHEN AND REUNITE FAMILIES. CIS-NYC STAFF MEMBERS, VOLUNTEERS AND DOJ ACCREDITED REPRESENTATIVES PROVIDE LEGAL SERVICES IN SPANISH AND ENGLISH, WITH AN EMPHASIS ON ASSISTING WITH FAMILY-BASED APPLICATIONS TO REUNIFY OR KEEP FAMILIES TOGETHER. THESE LEGAL SERVICES INCLUDE ACCESS SERVICES, IMMIGRATION APPLICATION ASSISTANCE, TRANSLATION SERVICES, NATURALIZATION, ADJUSTMENT OF STATUS AND CONSULAR PROCESSING CASES, AND REPLACEMENT OF DOCUMENTS. IN ADDITION, CIS-NYC SCREENS VULNERABLE POPULATIONS FOR ALTERNATIVE FORMS OF RELIEF (SUCH AS U VISAS, SIJ, VAWA, AND ASYLUM), MAKE REFERRALS TO TRUSTED COMMUNITY PARTNERS, AND PROVIDE EXTENSIVE FOLLOW-UP SUPPORT. IN 2019 CIS-NYC PROVIDED 510 LEGAL CONSULTATIONS AND OPENED 220 NEW CASES, IN ADDITION TO CONTINUING ONGOING CASES.

JUSTICE FOR IMMIGRANTS (JFI): THROUGH JFI CIS-NYC SEEKS TO CHALLENGE INJUSTICE, EDUCATE OUR CONSTITUENCY TO EQUIP MEMBERS TO BE THEIR OWN ADVOCATES, AND DISSEMINATE VITAL INFORMATION VIA OUTREACH, WORKSHOPS, AND SOCIAL MEDIA. A MAJOR COMPONENT OF JFI IS MONTHLY KNOW YOUR RIGHTS WORKSHOPS. WE PARTNER WITH COMMUNITY, RELIGIOUS, AND GOVERNMENT ORGANIZATIONS TO PRODUCE THESE WORKSHOPS ON SUBJECTS OF IMPORTANCE TO IMMIGRANTS. IN ADDITION, MEMBERS PARTICIPATE IN ADVOCACY ON A CITY, STATE AND NATIONAL LEVEL FOR IMMIGRATION SERVICES AND RIGHTS. IN 2019 CIS-NYC ENGAGED OVER 350 COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN 25 WORKSHOPS, 9 ADVOCACY EVENTS, 3 LEGAL CLINICS, AND A PLETHORA OF OTHER ACTIVITIES THROUGH THE JFI PROGRAM. IN 2019 10 IMMIGRANT LEADERS COMPLETED AN 11-WEEK POPULAR EDUCATION LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM.

FOOD PANTRY PROGRAM: THE PRIMARY GOAL OF THE FOOD PANTRY IS TO PROVIDE HEALTHY AND CULTURALLY APPROPRIATE FOOD TO OUR CLIENTS EACH WEEK, YEAR AROUND. AT CIS-NYC'S FOOD PANTRY WE MAKE IT A PRIORITY TO OFFER FRESH, SEASONAL PRODUCE AND INCLUDE CULTURALLY COMPETENT PRODUCTS. WE USE A CLIENT CHOICE MODEL, WHICH PROMOTES DIGNITY AND AGENCY TO HELP EACH FAMILY OR INDIVIDUAL GET CLOSER TO REACHING THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF SELF-SUFFICIENCY. IN 2019 CIS-NYC DISTRIBUTED AN AVERAGE OF 909 BAGS FILLED WITH HEALTHY AND CULTURALLY APPROPRIATE FOOD TO FAMILIES IN NEED EACH MONTH, PROVIDING NUTRITION TO OVER 2,700 FAMILIES OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR.
