The Center at West Park is a home for arts, culture, and community in the landmark West Park Presbyterian Church on the Upper West Side in Manhattan. The Center is a secular not-for-profit organization that offers a diverse range of programs for artists, audiences, and the neighborhood; manages the buildings facilities; and stewards the restoration of its historic exterior. The mission of the Center is to build a more inclusive community in the Upper West Side neighborhood and all of New York City by presenting diverse, engaging, and boundary-pushing artistic and cultural programming; providing affordable performance, rehearsal, and event space to local artists and community members; and preserving the West Park Presbyterian Churchs historic edifice. The Center aims to create and maintain a vibrant cultural hub, a forum for conversations and connections that transcend barriers to address the important issues facing our society today.

In our third year, The Center at West Park presented numerous performances of theater and puppetry through our Artist ResidencyPrograms; provided affordable performance, rehearsal, and administrative space for other arts organizations and individual artists through our Space Rental Program; and made necessary building improvements to restore and preserve the Landmarked West Park Presbyterian Church Campus.Artist Residency Programs. In 2019, we provided 23 residencies to 9 performing arts companies and self-producing artists, serving over 300 individual artists, presenting 115 public performances, and engaging over 3,700 audience members. These resident artists and their projects included: Hamlet Isnt Deads TROILUS & CRESSIDA; GIRLS ACT OUT by Taylor Steele, MISTERMAN by Enda Walsh, ST. KILDA by Jody Christopherson, Moxie Arts GODS NECKLACE by Morgan Kinnally, OPEN YOUR HEART AND MIND by Deborah Latz, Wistaria Projects FEAST YOUR FAMINE: A WATCH-AND-PLAY, Waterwells COURTROOM and Primitive Graces A CITY OF REFUGE.The Center also produced the OBJECT MOVEMENT PUPPETRY FESTIVAL, which showcased eight original puppetry and object theater pieces developed at the Center over a nine-month residency, and the FURNACE FESTIVAL,which presenting workshops of four new plays. Space Rental Program. The Center provided affordable space to numerous theater and dance companies, music ensembles and independent artists towards developing and showcasing their work; to community and support groups for weekly meetings; and to congregations for performing services. The Center has supported activities in 2019 by the following arts organizations and community groups via this this program including: French Christian Ministry, Lighthouse Chapel, Loire Valley Theater Festival, New Amsterdam Opera, NexGen Youth Theater, Rockefeller Productions, Spring Lake Productions, The Storm Theater, THML Theater Company, Upper West Side Art, VillageLight Opera, and Young New Yorkers Chorus. We also provided affordable long-term office and studio space to the exemplary and critically-acclaimed performing arts companies Noche Flamenca, On Site Opera, and the Russian ArtsTheater and Studio, as well as thousands of hours of short-term rehearsal andmeeting space for dozens of theater, dance, and musical artists and groups. Landmark Restoration Project. In 2019, The Center made vital repairs to the roof of the building as well as minor repairs to the administrative tower and continued to plan for future improvements. On December 6, 2019, we held our third annual Glitz and Grit Benefit Night, which raised nearly $40,000 to support the Landmark Restoration Project and our Artist Residency Programs,setting the stage for further growth, development, and improvements in 2020.
