ESTABLISHED IN 1996, THE CENTER FOR ARTS EDUCATION (CAE) HAS BEEN A STALWART ADVOCATE FOR AND PROVIDER OF QUALITY ARTS EDUCATION FOR MORE THAN TWO DECADES. TODAY, CAE TAKES A UNIQUELY COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH TO ARTS EDUCATION BY PROVIDING ARTS INSTRUCTION AT ALL GRADE LEVELS AND IN ALL DISCIPLINES; AND LINKING THE ARTS TO 21ST CENTURY SKILLS: CREATIVITY, COMMUNICATION, COLLABORATION, AND CRITICAL THINKING. CAE ALSO HAS UNIQUE PROGRAMS THAT PREPARE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FOR CAREERS IN THE CREATIVE INDUSTRIES; ENGAGE FAMILIES IN THE ARTS; AND DELIVER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND CAPACITY-BUILDING PROGRAMS FOR EDUCATORS.
TO ENSURE THAT ALL NEW YORK CITY PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS RECEIVE QUALITY ARTS INSTRUCTION.
SCHOOL-BASED PROGRAMS: THE CENTER FOR ARTS EDUCATION (CAE) DESIGNS AND IMPLEMENTS SCHOOL-DAY, SUMMER AND AFTER-SCHOOL RESIDENCIES IN THE VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS FOR PRE-K TO 12TH GRADE STUDENTS. DURING AND AFTER THE SCHOOL CLOSURES OF 2020, CAE DELIVERED THESE PROGRAMS BOTH REMOTELY AND IN PERSON; AND PROVIDED ROBUST SUMMER PROGRAMMING TO INCREASE ENGAGEMENT IN SCHOOL AND SUPPORT STUDENTS' SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL HEALTH. CAE ALSO PROVIDES A UNIQUE FAMILY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM, AND A ROBUST CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM THAT INTRODUCES HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO CAREERS IN THE ARTS AND PROVIDES POST-SECONDARY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: CAE DEVISES AND LEADS PROFESSIONAL SEMINARS, WORKSHOPS, AND PEER EXCHANGE OPPORTUNITIES FOR PRINCIPALS, CLASSROOM TEACHERS, IN-SCHOOL ARTS SPECIALISTS AND TEACHING ARTISTS TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY AND QUANTITY OF ARTS PROGRAMMING IN SCHOOLS. CAE DEVELOPED ONLINE ARTS RESOURCES FOR SCHOOL PERSONNEL AFTER TRADITIONAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT METHODS WERE CANCELLED IN RESPONSE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.
