Organizations Filed Purposes: OUR MISSION IS TO PROMOTE AND PROTECT AFFORDABLE HOMEOWNERSHIP IN NEW YORK SO THAT MIDDLE- AND WORKING-CLASS FAMILIES ARE ABLE TO BUILD STRONG, THRIVING COMMUNITIES.

FORECLOSURE PREVENTION / NETWORK PROGRAMS: BY OPERATING PROGRAMS THAT DIRECTLY ASSIST HOMEOWNERS, PROVIDING THOUGHT LEADERSHIP AND ANALYSIS FOR SYSTEMS CHANGE, AND COORDINATING A NETWORK OF HOUSING COUNSELING AND LEGAL SERVICES PROVIDERS, THE CENTER SUPPORTS HOMEOWNERS AT EVERY STEP OF THE JOURNEY AND FROM EVERY ANGLE. OUR PROGRAMS INCLUDE LOAN SCAM PREVENTION OUTREACH, A HOME REPAIR PROGRAM, AND OTHER INITIATIVES TO SUPPORT AND STABILIZE HOMEOWNERS. FORECLOSURE PREVENTION ADVICE AND ASSISTANCE IS AT THE CORE OF THESE HOMEOWNER STABILIZATION SERVICES, AND IS PROVIDED THROUGH CONTRACTS WITH LEGAL SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS AND HOUSING COUNSELING PROVIDERS. THE CENTER'S LEGAL SERVICE PARTNERS PROVIDE HOMEOWNERS IN FORECLOSURE WITH ADVICE AND COUNSEL, DIRECT REPRESENTATION IN COURT, AND PRO-SE ASSISTANCE. THE CENTER'S HOUSING COUNSELING PARTNERS PROVIDE HOMEOWNERS WITH ONE-ON-ONE COUNSELING SERVICES TO SAVE THEIR HOMES ON NEGOTIATE A SUSTAINABLE HOUSING SOLUTION DEDICATED COUNSELORS AND SUPPORT STAFF WORK CLOSELY WITH THE HOMEOWNER TO DEVELOP A BUDGET, ASSESS MORTGAGE DOCUMENTATION, NEGOTIATE WITH LENDERS AND SERVICERS AND ASSIST THE HOMEOWNERS WITH OTHER NON-MORTGAGE NEEDS. THE CENTER EMPLOYS A REINFORCING CYCLE OF RESEARCH, ADVOCACY, THOUGHT LEADERSHIP, PILOT PROGRAMS, AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO MAKE THE CASE FOR GOVERNMENTAL CHANGES, PROGRAMS, AND INVESTMENTS THAT STABILIZE HOMEOWNERS AND EXPAND AFFORDABLE HOMEOWNERSHIP.

SANDY RECOVERY AND FLOOD RESILIENCY: THE CENTER FOR NEW YORK CITY NEIGHBORHOODS PROVIDES CASE MANAGEMENT AND TEMPORARY HOUSING SERVICES SPECIFICALLY DEDICATED TO HURRICANE SANDY IMPACTED HOMEOWNERS. A MAJOR COMPONENT OF THESE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED AS PART OF THE NEW YORK CITY BUILD IT BACK (BIB) PROGRAM RUN BY THE MAYOR'S OFFICE OF HOUSING RECOVERY (HRO) AND USES FEDERAL COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT DISASTER RECOVERY FUNDS TO ASSIST HOMEOWNERS RECOVERING FROM SUPERSTORM SANDY. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE OF STORM RECOVERY, THROUGH FLOODHELPNY.ORG ALL NEW YORK CITY HOMEOWNERS CAN DETERMINE THEIR FLOOD RISK AND OBTAIN A HOME RESILIENCY AUDIT, AN ELEVATION CERTIFICATE AND OTHER RELATED SERVICES.

MORTGAGE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (MAP): THROUGH OUR WHOLLY OWNED SUBSIDIARY, SUSTAINABLE NEIGHBORHOODS LLC, THE CENTER LENDS TO HOMEOWNERS AT RISK OF FORECLOSURE AND WHO WERE UNABLE TO GET ASSISTANCE FROM OTHER FORECLOSURE PREVENTION PROGRAMS. MAP WAS INITIATED BY THE NYC DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING PRESERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT AND WAS EXPANDED WITH ADDITIONAL FUNDING UNDER THE STATE PROGRAM THROUGH THE OFFICE OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL AND THROUGH PRIVATE FUNDING.
