Organizations Filed Purposes: Chamber Orchestra of New York is the city's premier young professionals orchestra. Founded to advance the careers of extraordinary artists, the orchestra presents works that bridge the classical and modern traditions. Internationally recognized for its championing of the Italian repertoire, the orchestra aims to cultivate a wider audience for the future of classical music.

The 12th concert season consisted of two Carnegie Hall performance with a total audience of approximately 468. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, two additional concert productions were postponed. Our audiences are comprised of 67% young adults (25-35 years old), 40% minorities, and 72% of NYC residents. Chamber Orchestra of New York's (CONY) central focus is to advance the careers of outstanding young professional musicians, composers, soloists, and conductors. The orchestra consists of fully-auditioned musicians who bring premier performances to classical music patrons. These musicians are frequently from major conservatories in the Northeast including The Curtis Institute, Eastman, Juilliard, Mannes/The New School, Manhattan School of Music, Peabody, and Yale, along with additional conservatories domestically and internationally. To-date, 18 former CONY musicians have full-time placements with major symphony orchestras, operas, and academic institutions.

The orchestra accepted and processed applications for its Respighi Prize music competition for young composers, pianists, and soloists. The competition was established to encourage and offer a performance opportunity for young talented composers and soloists from all countries, through the inspiration of Ottorino Respighi's music. The competition is open to young composers, pianists, and soloists (instrumental and vocal) under 40 years of age, of all nationalities, currently enrolled in (or recent graduates of) music conservatory or college (including preparatory or post-certificate programs) from all over the world. The winners are selected from a jury panel of veteran artists in the field. Previous years have featured winners from Russia, Switzerland, USA, Italy, Germany, Brazil, and Austria. The 2019 and 2020 winners who will be featured in the 2020/2021 season are guitarist Flavio Nati (Italy) at Carnegie Hall and pianist Christopher Goodpasture at AUPAC.

The COVID-19 pandemic forced CONY to cancel all 3 Maestro Juniors programs scheduled for the week of April 6th at PS/IS 127Q, PS 84Q and PS 69Q. As schools adjusted to remote learning it became clear that enrichment programs such as Maestro Juniors could not take place prior to the end of the academic year. Instead, Maestro Salvatore Di Vittorio and Education Manager Shanan Estreicher developed a digital curriculum throughout Spring 2020 which will be shared with these partner schools (engaging 370 students), and possibly other schools (at least 200 students), during the 2020-21 year. The curriculum, structured as a 60 minute instructional video, provides an engaging introduction to classical music, string instruments, and conducting.
