Founded in 1877, Community Work Services empowers individuals living in poverty to transform their lives through job training and career services.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: CWS operates four commercial businesses that offer valuable training opportunities for participants. CWS's business enterprises serve customers in business, nonprofit and government sectors.1. Assembly and packaging: CWS offers outstanding professional customized fulfillment solutions, including general packaging, assembly, commercial sewing, shrink wrapping, medical device assembly, kitting, mailing and food packaging. We provide competitive pricing and rapid turnaround. 2. Food Service and Catering: CWS offers custom catering services for meetings and events at competitive prices. We operate a caf at 174 Portland St. which serves breakfast and lunch, Monday through Friday. 3. Total Facilities Management: CWS provides services for the comprehensive care of buildings and properties. We serve 18 buildings in Massachusetts. 4. Mailroom management: CWS manages one mailroom for government agencies through its "Ability One" contracts. We provide secure and accurate mail handling and employ four individuals with disabilities through this contract.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH: Placement specialists work closely with graduates from CWS's programs to identify meaningful employment opportunities which meet their individual skills and interests. CWS works across a variety of industries, including food service, commercial cleaning, retail, hospitality, landscaping, office support, customer service and security. CWS provides comprehensive post-placement services for more than one year to each graduate to ensure job retention and promote advancement and continuing education. Sessions include one-on-one coaching and group support sessions. Community Work Services (CWS) serves men and women who face many barriers to employment including those who have developmental and other disabilities, homeless individuals, ex-offenders who are reintegrating into society and the workforce, long-term welfare recipients, individuals with low levels of educational attainment and little work experience, single mothers who must earn a living while also caring for their children, and others. CWS has established a track record for succeeding at helping these men and women prepare for, secure, and maintain employment when they have been unable to do so on their own, and in some cases, even when they have tried and not been successful in other employment programs. We offer a variety of training programs and internships so that individuals gain employment soft-skills and professional experience while providing employment search, career coaching and advancement services. CWS works with individuals seeking greater economic self-sufficiency, including those with disabilities, the homeless, veterans, mature workers, individuals in poverty, individuals with chronic unemployment and the formerly incarcerated. Participants complete: 1. Job Readiness Training - a one-week training program which builds professional soft-skills and job search skills. 2. At Your Service: Participants complete a 8-week program for careers in the hotel and hospitality industry. Successful graduates receive Certification for the American Hotel and Lodging Association. 3. Food Arts Training: Participants train with industry experts and experience hands-on work in operating a caf and catering company. Participants complete 6-weeks of training and obtain the ServeSafe Managers Certificate. 4. Total Facilities Management Training. Participants complete a curriculum designed to prepare them for employment in the property maintenance industry. Participants receive hands-on training in the use of products and commercial cleaning equipment, landscaping and grounds maintenance. Graduates receive a certificate of completion recognizing their skills. Participants complete 6-weeks of training and obtain OSHA 10 certification . Commercial Production: Participants learn appropriate workplace attire and conduct, safety measures, positive and productive work habits, and team skills. Participants complete 6- weeks of training and receive Osha 10 certification. 5. CWS supported employment and community exploration for 105 individuals with 73 working. We had 45 new placements, with 37 employed for at least 30 days and 22 employed for more than six months.
