Organizations Filed Purposes: COUNCIL OF THE AMERICAS PRIMARY EXEMPT PURPOSE IS TO PROMOTE ON BEHALF OF ITS MEMBERS WHO SHARE A COMMON COMMITMENT IN THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE, ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT, OPEN MARKETS, FREE TRADE, THE RULE OF LAW AND DEMOCRACY.

COUNCIL OF THE AMERICAS IS A BUSINESS ORGANIZATION WHOSE MEMBERS SHARE A COMMON COMMITMENT TO ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT, OPEN MARKETS, THE RULE OF LAW, AND DEMOCRACY THROUGHOUT THE AMERICAS. THE COUNCIL'S MEMBERSHIP CONSISTS OF LEADING COMPANIES REPRESENTING A BROAD SPECTRUM OF SECTORS WITH SIGNIFICANT INTEREST IN THE REGION. THE COUNCIL, THROUGH ITS OFFICES IN NEW YORK, WASHINGTON DC, AND MIAMI, CONVENES MEETINGS, PROGRAMS, AND CONFERENCES THROUGHOUT THE AMERICAS TO UNITE OPINION LEADERS FROM BOTH THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTORS TO EXCHANGE IDEAS AND CREATE SOLUTIONS TO THE CHALLENGES OF THE AMERICAS TODAY.

DURING 2018, THE COUNCIL HELD HIGH-LEVEL PROGRAMS ACROSS THE UNITED STATES AND LATIN AMERICA TO FOSTER DIALOGUE ON REGIONAL ISSUES. WITH PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS IN THE LARGEST LATIN AMERICAN ECONOMIES -BRAZIL AND MEXICO- DURING 2018, AND SIX LATIN AMERICAN COUNTRIES SCHEDULED TO HOLD ELECTIONS IN 2019, THE COUNCIL WORKED TO FULFILL ITS MISSION OF EXPLAINING THE MAJOR SHIFTS IN SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC POLICY IN THE REGION AND STRENGTHENING HEMISPHERIC TIES THROUGH BOTH PUBLIC FORUMS AND PRIVATE MEETINGS. IN 2018, OUR PROGRAMMING COVERED A WIDE RANGE OF THEMES, INCLUDING THE NEW U.S.-MEXICO-CANADA AGREEMENT (USMCA), ANTI-CORRUPTION EFFORTS IN LATIN AMERICA, BETTER GOVERNANCE IN THE REGION, AND THE POLITICAL AND HUMANITARIAN CRISIS IN VENEZUELA.
