Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE PRIMARY ACTIVITY OF EVERYTOWN FOR GUN SAFETY ACTION FUND IS TO PROMOTE GUN SAFETY LEGISLATION AND INITIATIVES AND REDUCE GUN VIOLENCE THROUGH THE EDUCATION OF POLICY-MAKERS, THE PRESS, AND THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE CONSEQUENCES OF GUN VIOLENCE AND ORGANIZING COMMUNITIES IN SUPPORT OF GUN SAFETY.
2019 MARKED ANOTHER PIVOTAL YEAR IN THE FIGHT TO END GUN VIOLENCE, AND EVERYTOWN FOR GUN SAFETY ACTION FUND WAS AT THE FOREFRONT OF THAT PROGRESS. THE TRAGIC SHOOTINGS IN VIRGINIA BEACH, DAYTON AND EL PASO CATAPULTED GUN SAFETY INTO THE HEADLINES YET AGAIN, ELEVATING THE STAKES IN AN ISSUE THAT HAD ALREADY BECOME A TOP-THREE PRIORITY FOR MOST AMERICANS BASED ON POLLING. THE URGENCY TO FINALLY DO SOMETHING TO COMBAT GUN VIOLENCE AND ELECT LEADERS WILLING TO ACT LED TO SIGNIFICANT VICTORIES IN STATE LEGISLATURES ACROSS THE COUNTRY, DROVE THE HISTORIC ELECTORAL EFFORT THAT FLIPPED CONTROL OF BOTH CHAMBERS OF THE STATE LEGISLATURE IN VIRGINIA, AND LED ALL OF THE LEADING DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY CANDIDATES FOR PRESIDENT TO PRIORITIZE GUN SAFETY ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL, INCLUDING AT A FIRST-EVER GUN SAFETY CANDIDATE MEMBERSHIP FORUM HELD BY EVERYTOWN AND MOMS DEMAND ACTION IN IOWA. ADDITIONALLY, EVERYTOWN PLAYED AN INTEGRAL ROLE IN URGING ELECTED OFFICIALS TO CREATE CHANGE AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL, RESULTING IN THE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES PASSING MAJOR, BIPARTISAN GUN SAFETY LEGISLATION FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 20 YEARS. AND, EVERYTOWN'S GRASSROOTS ARMS -- MOMS DEMAND ACTION AND STUDENTS DEMAND ACTION -- CONTINUED TO EXPAND ITS SIZE AND SCOPE.
