Organizations Filed Purposes: Figure Skating in Harlem (FSH) is the first organization of its kind to combine the power of education with access to the sport and artistic discipline of figure skating to empower young women to thrive and become strong leaders. Since 1997, our program has provided students ages 6 18 with access to educational, health, and fitness services to help them reach their fullest potentials. Our mission is to help girls transform their lives and grow in confidence, leadership, and academic achievement. Our vision is for every student, regardless of socio-economic background, to develop the foundational academic, social and leadership skills to achieve her dreams. She will be a powerful speaker, an effective leader, live a healthy lifestyle and be a global citizen. With 22 years of experience in New York City, in 2017 we launched our first chapter in Detroit, bringing our powerful and effective programming to a whole new community and expanding our impact.

I Can Excel (ICE) Afterschool ProgramFrom October to May, girls participated 3-6 days per week engaged in robust academic programming that combines classes in financial, literacy, STEAM, communications / public speaking, self-advocacy, college access and academic tutoring, while encouraging healthy lifestyles through figure skating and fitness classes all while strengthening their leadership skills. During FY19, Figure Skating in HarlemProvided deeper college access and test prep servicesCreated a new communications curriculum Expanded our STEM programLaunched a season-long leadership project for our high schoolersCreated new Career Week and performance opportunities Was featured in The Sunday New York Times, the Today Show, a CNN / Purepoint Financial video, Netflix, among others. FY19 Programmatic Results included: All 2019 graduating seniors were accepted to four-year colleges. 70% of students demonstrated increased STEM knowledge based on pre- to post enrichment unit assessments and 91% enjoyed communications classes and activities. Over 70% of students improved their Math or ELA scores from pre to post computer assessments. 85% achieved and maintained a B average or above in core subjects, up from 75% at the beginning of the season, with a record 40% achieving As. 88% of students tested passed at least one Basic Skills skating level (showing mastery of 5-7 new skating elements)

Figure Skating in DetroitFigure Skating in Detroit (FSD) successfully completed its second year of skating, education and leadership programming, serving over 120 girls in their I Can Excel (ICE) afterschool program and weeklong summer camp. FSD was prominently featured at the US Figure Skating Championships held in Detroit and students performed in the closing exhibition. FY19 Programmatic Results included: 85% of students showed growth in Math or Reading skills,85% achieved Bs or higher on their report cards. All students passed at least one US Figure Skating Basic Skills test level. In end of season surveys 100% of parents reported their student showed improvement in self-confidence and pride and 88% of felt their student showed improvement in self-discipline and commitment.

Summer Dreams CampOur FY 19 our Summer Dreams camp provided students with at least 32 hours and four days a week of dynamic programming. The camp provided academic enrichment, skating instruction, and cultural exposure. Mornings were devoted to participating in fun team-based projects around math, STEAM, and reading, as well as off-ice fitness conditioning through dance. Cultural trips included the Childrens Museum of Manhattan, the Brooklyn Museum and the New York Hall of Science.
