Organizations Filed Purposes: Fiji Theater Company, Inc. creates works of theater and art that reveal beauty, precision, and a commitment to social justice. Founded by Ping Chong, the company creates original interdisciplinary works by a group of affiliated artists and is committed to artistic innovation, collaboration community engagement, and amplifying underrepresented voices. The Fiji Theater develops works in collaboration with local, regional, national, and international institutional partners ranging from schools and universities, to regional theaters, international arts festivals,, and grass roots social service organizations.

Nocturne in 2020/Nocturne Remix 2020: An anthology evening featuring new short works by emerging artists of color, in collaboration with Ping Chong, originally scheduled for April 2020, now postponed to 2021. Intended to mark the start of a new program supporting young artists of color who will explore Ping Chong's archive, it was also meant as the culminating event for our inaugural Generation NYZ Fellows. Production development and rehearsal process was well underway at the time of the citywide shutdown. PCC has continued to work with the artists, however, and will share a series of digitally generated works by them in June 2020.Collidescope: Further Adventures in Pre and Post-Racial America is a multidisciplinary theater production by Ping Chong and Talvin Wilks on the history of violence directed at African Americans, from the Colonial Era to the present. Each presentation of Collidescope incorporates local historical and contemporary events, and experiences of individual performers. Collidescope 4.0 was presented at the University of Minnesota in Fall 2019. Face to Face: Hmong Womens Voices was a new Undesirable Elements production on the experiences of first generation Hmong-American women in the Twin Cities. Written and directed by PCC Associate Director Sara Zatz and Katie Ka Vang, it was created in partnership with Park Square Theatre (St. Paul) and ran March 5th through 15th, for 6 school and 8 public performances.When The Salmon Spoke: Led by Tis Peterman (Tlingit), Annita McPhee (Tahltan), and PCC associated artist Ryan Conarro, this production shares stories about the environmental impact of mining on the indigenous communities in British Columbia and Alaska that share the transboundary river region. Planned as a live performance, it has been reconceived as an online event. Following its premiere on May 31, 2020 with associated community engagement events, it will be continue to be available via a website with expanded content and documentation.Secret Survivors: In recognition of the 10th Anniversary of the Secret Survivors project (featuring adult survivors of child sexual abuse), PCC hosted a national digital event with free access to the Secret Survivors documentary and original performance, and a virtual panel discussion with survivor advocates from around the country. Originally scheduled as a live event at BRIC, this event was transformed into a virtual event, and is now archived and freely available for viewers. Planned work on a new theater work with survivor advocate Skip Shea on survivors of clergy abuse has been indefinitely delayed due to COVID-19.Beyond Sacred: National Initiative: This initiative uses the arts to build dialogue between and within Muslim and non-Muslim communities in the United States. In FY20, a planned presentation of Beyond Sacred at Maxine Greene High School in New York City was canceled, however a live-stream of the production was re-broadcast by WNYCs The Greene Space. Bad Husband/Bad Homo: Created by PCC collaborating artist, Ryan Conarro, featuring Kirya Traber, Jimmy Crowell, and Will Atkins, BHBH is a funny, poignant, and unfiltered performance, an absurd comedy of errors about gay divorce. It ran for four sold out performances, from January 3-11th, 2020 at Dixon Place. Arts Education and Training: In FY20, PCC held two training programs in NYC: our semi-annual Summer Training Institute on PCCs community engagement methodologies, and a pilot teen summer institute for Muslim American youth. PCC completed 5 school-based residencies in NYC, including one that was transformed into a virtual residency after NYC schools shut down.Creative Fellowship In FY20, PCC launched its pilot Creative Fellowship Program. The program provides paid fellowships to emerging artists of color. Fellows are in residence with the company for 6-8 months and receive mentorship and training in all aspects of the company, with a deeper dive into the PCC process and professional development
