Founded in 1996, The Flea Theaters mission is simple yet bold: to raise a joyful hell in a small space, representing the best and brightest of what Off-Off-Broadway can be. The Flea produces over 250 performances each year, giving voice and opportunity to diverse and innovative writers, directors, actors and designers who have something urgent to say about our world. The Flea is a destination for bold and adventurous theater that sticks, and stays with you long after the performance.

In 2019, The Flea welcomed over 7,700 audience members across 200+ performances and served over 225 total artists. In the spring we finished our "Color Brave" season with the NY premiere of Kristiana Rae Coln'sgood fridayand Thomas Bradshaw'sSouthern Promises; we also remounted our inaugural Cereals production ofNot My Monster!by Nick Gandiello. And in the fall we produced a 10-week festival featuring five works - including two world premieres -by Flea co-founderMac Wellman, titled "Perfect Catastrophes." Throughout the year we continued our two series,Flea FridaysandSERIALS, the latter of which celebrated its 50th Cycle. We also hosted 17 Anchor Partners, itinerant music (3), dance (6) and theater (8) companies who produced a total of 201 performances while in residence.
