COMPANYGibney Company is a radical re-conception of a contemporary dance company. Gibney Company is the organization's premier commission-based repertory dance company, collaborating with internationally acclaimed and rising choreographers. Led by Artistic Director Gina Gibney, and Company Directors Nigel Campbell and Amy Miller, Gibney Company activates its dancers toward their full artistic, entrepreneurial, and socially-minded selves through rigorous physical, intellectual, and interpersonal practices. COMMUNITYGibney is at the forefront of activating the arts to address social justice issues. It is central to Gibneys credo that the highest peak of creative innovation and excellence is inseparable from a thriving community, and that arts are an essential tool for fostering healing and unity. Gibneys highly respected Community initiatives bring a range of social issues into the spotlight, with a focus on healthy relationships and violence prevention. This programming includes Move to Move Beyond, a movement workshop program focused on survivors of intimate partner violence; Hands are for Holding, a sought-after in-school arts education program dedicated to exploring healthy relationships; and Moving Toward Justice, an initiative mobilizing diverse artists as activists. These initiatives take Gibneys mission beyond the studios and stages of its centers and out into New York City, the United States, and abroad.IMPACTThrough its expansive cultural programming, Gibney continues to push boundaries, tackle pressing issues, provide resources for artistic exploration, and lift intersectional voices into the fold. Today, Gibney is home to tens of thousands of artists and community members across its two locations. Its mission and programming come to life through its CENTERS, COMPANY, and COMMUNITY. Even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Gibneys two CENTERS welcomed 5,800 audience members, commissioned 15 new works, provided 60 skill-building workshops to over 500 artists, served 50,000 dancers through 4,000+ drop-in classes, awarded 8 Dance in Process residencies, and provided subsidized rental rates to over 500 New York City artists. Gibney's social justice dance COMPANY commissioned five world premieres during two performance seasons and performed for 2,800 New Yorkers. Gibney's impactful COMMUNITY action initiatives included 280+ movement-based workshops with survivors of gender-based violence, 73 in-school assemblies on violence prevention, reaching over 9,000 local students, and sustained work with a cohort of 6 artists pursuing projects grounded in social action. In addition, due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gibney reimagined much of its programming to create meaningful digital interactions for its constituents.

CENTERGibneys Centers are a central meeting ground for NYCs vibrant artistic community. Through its two performing arts centers, Gibney is a home to the thousands of artists and community members that pass through its doors. These two locations, at 890 and 280 Broadway feature 23 studios, 5 performance spaces, and 55,000 square feet of Lower Manhattan real estate dedicated to culture, dance, engagement, social activism, and more.Gibneys Centers house its Training program, designed to employ and serve dance artists of all backgrounds and abilities through classes and workshops; its Rentals program, which serves established and/or commercial artists in addition to offering subsidized rehearsal space to nonprofit artists; its Digital Media Initiative, which provides artists with career-sustaining digital training and resources; its Presenting Program, featuring artists from across mediums in a robust and year-round series of performances, panels, and talks. A holistic artistic ecosystem thrives within Gibneys Centers and aims to support performing artists at every stage of their careerfrom training and creative process to performance, discourse, and community engagement.
