GISA IS A GLOBAL NON PROFIT ORGANIZAITON DEDICATED TO BUILDING THE FUTURE OF MEDIA WITH INDEPDENDENT JOURNALISTS, ARTISTS AND ENTREPRENURES WORKING IN CLOSED SOCIETIES THROUGH PRODUCTION, OPEN SOURCE INNOVATION, RESEARCH, LEARNING AND COMMUNICATION BUILDING.
Media Production and Development:Relaunched Ayin Media Gisa launched a new website and an expanded video coverage on 3ayin.org while conducting multiple trainings throughout the year, and starting Ayin English and a news section.Start up Incubation We incubated and launched two new media companies in Sudan as part of our push for sustainability.Media Production: We produced and facilitated dozens of news stories and documentaries for CNN, Al Jazeera, BBC and other international media with three documentaries and a VR film currently in production.
Human Rights:Launched the Sudanese Archive days after the revolution began in late 2018, Gisa brought together a team to document the human rights abuses online. This project became the Sudanese Archives, which now holds over 100,000 digital files. The Sudanese Archive brought powerful data tools to a new generation of Human Rights groups in Sudan while partnering with established organization to improve documentation, advocacy and media efforts across Sudan. This was all done with minimal funding, by our mostly volunteer team.Oral History Project: Gisa helped design an Oral history project for transitional justice in conflict areas
Civic Engagement and Art:Piloted Civic Labs Gisa Inc. led efforts to set up labs for civic-engagement across Sudan. We obtained seed funding for a trial with 4 civic labs.Supported a Civic Accelerator Gisa Inc. brought together diverse community activists from across Sudan to plan and design impactful projects Designed and Implemented the Open Sudan project. Gisa improved access to information during and internet shut down shut down while helping launch Sudans nascent digital rights community and invested in solutions for circumventing future shutdowns.Founded the Digital Rights Forum Gisa organized and ran Sudans first Digital Rights Forum at the CIPESA internet conference in Addis which resulted in a number of community building events in Sudan and two collaborative projects.Supported Civic Engagement Gisa Inc.s network worked on the frontline of the protests to support youth pro-democracy activists throughout 2019. Our team advised and provided mentorship, conducted dozens of trainings, designed campaigns, and supported local and international journalist
